Leadership---Stepping Up - 2009/12/28 04:59 Just a few random thoughts on : Stepping up.
Just like it sounds.
Stepping UP into the leadership of a great group.
Taking the horns and just going for it for some can be scary if not downright terrifying.(Oh god, everybody is looking at me, what do I do now?)
Sure there is the possibility of failing. There is also the possibly of succeeding. Don't be afraid of either.
You never know until you try. Clichés clichés. This may be full of them, but be that as it may it’s a good thing to try either way.
Odds are, even if you have been in the leadership positions before, it will be a learning experience. Hopefully it will also include lots of fun experiences.
In my opinion, one of the best things is that YOU get to decide the theme and what we do.
How many times have you said or heard “I wish we did more of ________”. Guess what? If you are leading you get to fill in that blank. Most assuredly you will have tons of advisers. Official and non-official. Once again, YOU get to fill in the blank. Self gratification at its best, YAH! Another good thing about stepping up, once you have been there you have more options. When someone is doing great you can go up to them, tell them they are doing great, and you both feel good about you saying that. And on the flip side, when someone is floundering you can look up there, be thankful its not you, then you go to them and offer help. Again, you both feel better on that. And they know they have at least one person supporting them. On that note, I believe too often we have people in office that don’t hear any feedback from the populous. Good or bad, take a moment of your and your leaderships time and let know what you feel. Make it constructive and in the end we can end up with an improved group.
As for me, I don’t have the t-shirt but been there done that and am grateful for any and everyone that steps up. For what it’s worth, if you are in or are going to be in office you have my respect, my support, and my thanks.
Again, my opinion, anyone who has stepped up, present or past, giving their time and energy to the club, deserves everyone’s Respect, support, and thanks.

So on that note: To our present and past leadership-

Thank you for taking the reins, grabbing the bull by it’s horns, and STEPPING UP
Thank you for your serving (giving of your time and energy) as leadership
in helping to keep this a fun and great club that I have grateful to have been a part of these many enjoyable years.
