Re:New player in Colorado Springs - 2009/12/16 00:10 I am what you would call a heavy fighter. I've put together a 11th century Norse impression with rivited chainmail, helm, round shield and sword. In our last group I was usually in the midst of the shieldwall. I have also built a danish greataxe, but I am not too sure that it is up to amtgard standards.

Does this sort of impression fit into the Empire's view of things?

I've done a little SCA, Amtgard is not about power hitting but timing, speed, and footwork. Large armor kits are not needed for normal play, but you can wear them in battlegames if you would like. Rakis is the empires big event which host about 300 each year, armor kits are used a lot then in those battlegames.

As for your great axe, you can find the rulebook here and figure out if it may or may not be legal. I'm not sure how often Darkmoon plays Battlegames so you may want to look into classes if you care about that.

You mentioned you were bringing others with you, you might want to look in to this.

My biggest question is what does the Empire need?
The biggest thing the empire needs is more people!

In service,
Hannibal
