Re:Business Card - 2008/09/11 23:15 Cruz,
Cards are an awesome tool to use to recruit members to the club. It is small enough to fit into a wallet/purse which is great because even if we only have a persons attention for a few minutes in the short-term, in the long-term this can make someone remember us when they happen to pull out the card weeks or even months later.

I use Print Shop Pro to create the business cards that we have used in the Demo's over the past few years and I print them using a standard ink jet printer. This way you can get decent cards with full color at a good price. You can buy the business card printer sheets at any office supply store for under 15.00 for 200 cards. If you do two sided cards be careful when buying the paper, make sure it says two sided, otherwise one side will just smear after printing. You are more than welcome to come and use my copy of the software to design your own. It is pretty robust and offers a ton of ready made graphics.

My cards are two sided, have a nice border, a sword and shield on the front, and say:
(Front)
Amtgard of Colorado
Live Action Fantasy Combat
www.amtgardrecords.com/atlas

(Back)
A nice border, all of the local group names/websites, and a watermark that says Amtgard of Colorado.

I placed the ORK Atlas on the front as this takes the person to a nice map of the U.S. showing all of the chapters. I figured that having them realize this is not just a small local group will make them more comfortable with joining. Also, even if the person requesting information is not from Colorado, they still can get to information regarding their local groups from our business card.

I tried not to make the card to wordy, or to busy with graphics and tried to focus primarily on the physical aspect of the game. For example, please note that I say "combat" instead of "Role playing". This is for two reasons. 1) We in Amtgard are pretty minimalistic when it comes to actually role playing. 2) Role Playing carries with it a stigma of nerdy fat guys in tights running around shouting "By Grubthars Hammer!!!". If you do notice someone seems to be more interested in the arts/sciences of Amtgard, you should focus your discussion towards that while you have them in front of you, if you try to detail all of the pieces of Amtgard on a single business card you would lose your audience quickly. A good rule is, can your card get their attention enough to decide to keep it between the time they pick it up and the time they reach the nearest trash can.

Thanks,
Kayden
