Rakis 08 Security Volunteers Needed! - 2008/03/27 23:13 It's Rakis time, and that means all kinds of people want your time. Unfortunately for you, I'm one of them.

Cullum has asked me to run security for Rakis this year and I'll need some volunteers!

I’m giving you options; hopefully one or more of these will suit your time and willingness to help out.

-Peak shifts: Two-hours shifts on Friday and Saturday evening/night (in other words, during prime get-drunk-and-stupid times).

- Regular shifts: Four-hour shifts are available for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all times of day/night. If you really, really want to pull a regular two-hour shift rather than a four, talk to me and we’ll see. I would really prefer to have people willing to give larger chunks of time so that fewer gaps have to be filled with the same people over and over again, but we can probably work it out.

-Militia: I’d also like to know who is willing to be on call at various times throughout the event in case we encounter a situation that needs more than three-five people to handle (unlikely, but always possible). Even if you don't want to have an official shift, we could use names to put on a roster of people we can grab in a pinch if something goes down.

-Officer of the Watch: Last, but not least, I’m looking for one or two people willing to serve as officers of the watch. This will mostly be me, but one or two people willing to spell me once or twice (so I could, just maybe, actually relax at some point for an hour or two) would be fabulous. This will involve more responsibility than your average security position: contact me for details if you think you might be interested.

If you think you are interested and want to see my recruitment materials (I mean… more detailed information), please e-mail me (or catch me at the park) and let me know the following:

-Your name
-Your home park
-Whether you are interested in a peak shift, a regular shift, militia position, or officer of the watch (or any combination of these)
-Approximately what days/times you are willing to work the shifts/positions (this will not be set in stone until later)

E-mail to: rakis08security@comcast.net

All volunteers for these details must be 18 and over.

DISCLAIMER: I’m going to put this out right up front so there are no misunderstandings. I reserve the right to say “Thank you for volunteering, but I really can’t use you for this”.

Example? Well… for instance, if you e-mail me talking about how you used to crack people’s heads open for fun in high school, loved to stuff people’s heads in toilets and are looking forward to forcing people to do as they’re told at Rakis and really pushing people around… my response is probably going to be “Thanks, but no thanks. Have you considered clean-up crew?”

I don’t necessarily foresee it happening, but if I honestly don’t think you are a fit for this job, I’m not going to jerk you around. Please don’t let that stop you from volunteering if you want to and please don’t assume that I’ll “probably say no”.
