shield padding question - 2006/01/09 14:29 I just want to doublecheck something...

All rigid-core shields must be covered with a layer of foam that is at least 1 inch thick on the face, and 1.5 inches on the edge.

So if I edge a rigid core shield with noodle, is that going to be legal? Example, a saucer sled for a core and noodling the edge, is it legal?

I've encountered a debate and I'm looking for some clairification from Imperial.

Re:shield padding question - 2006/01/10 07:59 depends on how thick the noodle is,
sure a whole stick of noodle would fit that, but usually I see folks cut the
noodle with a slit to the center, then wrap the noodle over the edge
with the shield core sliding into the slit, in that case I'm not sure if the noodle
from edge of core to outside of noodle would fit the req.
I'd measure it out, maybe add a layer of camp pad under the noodle if it
isn't thick enough.

Re:shield padding question - 2006/01/10 09:16 The thickness of a single wall of funnoodle is less than 1.5" but more than 1.0". Generally, the last layer of the camp foam (about 0.5" thick) on the face of the shield overlaps the edge of the shield. If you add a split funnoodle, as Grendel suggests, the thickness of the padding on the shield edge will be greater than or equal to 1.5".
