Re:leather armor - 2005/12/09 09:48 Siegel of California - www.siegelofca.com - generally has much better prices than Tandy/Leather Factory, *and* if your order is over $75, shipping is free. That's nothing to sneeze at any more, and its not hard to hit that $75. I've been very happy with their leather and their service. They also now do mix & match pricing on some items - which can allow you to hit the next cheaper volume price point more easily.

The end of the year sale flyer is available as a .pdf at the Siegel web site. Large, but worth the wait. Lots & lots of good deals. Saddle skirting at $3/square foot is a good deal. So are softer leathers in the $2-3/square foot, and under.

My other main supplier is Weaver Leather - www.weaverleather.com - but I understand that they now require a tax ID#/wholesale license.

Several years ago The Leather Factory bought Tandy, so LF and Tandy are now one in the same any more. I still hit the local LF store on occasion, but even their wholesale prices just aren't always competetive. OTOH, it is nice to be walk into a store and see/feel the leather, play with the tools, BS with the manager and his employees, etc.

Check the cost of joining the LF/Tandy "wholesale" club, depending on how big you are/how much leather/tools/other supplies you'll need, the cost savings may be worth it. LF actually has up to three pricing levels on any item - retail, which is the prices you see in the flyers, club, and true wholesale, which requires a tax ID/wholesale license. Note, I absoultely despise the Tejas brand rawhide lace that they carry, and don't have a very high opinion of the Tejas calf lace, either. Tejas latigo lace is ok, IMO.

Wickett & Craig - http://www.wickett-craig.com/
I've only heard good things about their leather and their service.

Texas Wholesale Leather - http://www.twleather.com/index.htm
Haven't ordered from them, yet, but I've talked to them on the phone about a couple of their products, they seem good.

If you seed lace, Marcellus-Oriva Leather Co. - http://www.leathercraft-lace.com/index2.ivnu
