Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/05 14:53 you should look up "Lamellar" on google. it will tel lyou everything you need. you basically cut a bunch of scales, punch some hoels in them, and lace them together. the end result is durable, flexible, and lightweight. plus the cost is pretty low. you nead a side of leather and a bunch of lacing. thats bout it.

you could also look at this site:
http://www.plasticlamellar.com/index.htm

its plastic, but should still net you 3 points (lamellar is a base 5 pts if its metal, 4 if its hardened leather. plastics are considered leather of the appropriate type, and then a -1 for inauthentic.) 3pts is actually more tha na barbar needs, and pretty good should you pick up any of the other classes later on.

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/05 17:39 not every group will allow points for plastic... some places don't allow it at all...

that's just something you need to know before you invest the time and money... it may not rate the same everywhere or be allowed points at all...

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/06 09:12 then those groups are no longer playing amtgard. plastic is specifically allowed by the 7.0 rules.

Non-authentic materials refer to materials that were not in use to create armor at the time, such as plastic. For comparison of metals, 16-gauge steel is the standard weight and toughness, so lighter or softer metals, such as aluminum, will incur this penalty, while stainless steel will not. Subtractions for inauthentic material may never exceed -2, though completely inappropriate materials may receive no points (i.e. Aluminum foil, cardboard, etc).

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/06 14:59 well, that may depend on the plastic. if it looks like plastic and doesn't mimic another acceptable material, it could be considered unaceptable. Or it may receive the full -2 it's allowed.

I'm not trying to argue the whole plastic issue here, (i don't really care) just want to alert the guy that he may have problems with plastic later if he travels outside his area.

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/07 09:19 totlaly agree. plastic still needs to conform VERY closely if not compeltely with the thickness requirements.

so no making armor out of butter dishes.

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/09 13:40 Well, check in your yellow pages and see if there is a leather wholesaler, such as Tandy. Also see if there are any Saddle or Tack shops, rodeo supplies, the like. They sell leather sometimes. If you can't find anything locally, I know we have a Tandy in Omaha, and there are some other good sources for raw and tanned leather here as well. Khanar Ekorn-Svarta

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/11/09 23:48 Hey, Kyo... I just got done looking through our Yellow pages.

Under Tack
Sioux City Vet Supply (doubtful...) 255-1999

Nothing under saddle or Rodeo.

I think your best bet would be to go down to Omaha and visit Tandy Leather. Also, you can order leather from Tandy as well. Their web site is TandyLeather.com. Here is the info for their Omaha location.

Re:leather barbarian armor - 2005/12/08 04:39 You'd think with all the cattle going through here, you could get some leather, but no... Actually, Leather Co went under a few years ago. This town sucks.
