2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/06 00:12 I had the fun of going and helping out at the new Rakis site this weekend and there were a few things I took note of that may help people come prepared.

This site reminded me of the Clan site we had tenth year at. Open space to fight in, camping in the trees, parking not next to your tent and everything connected by the main road. This is not a manicured state park type campsite so your possible tent site might have branches, rocks, pine cones, etc. So bring an air mattress, camp pad, futon or just clean the area before putting your tent down. There are far more sites then there seem to be at first glance. Many are tucked up in the trees.

There is plenty of shade in the tent areas but bringing your owe for jugging/battle games wouldn't hurt.

Also Axgar will have water there but it does get hot and there is no such thing as having too much water or sun screen.

There are also cactus but Axgar has been digging them up on the battle and ditch fields so there shouldn't be any but still remember that knee pads are your friend . The ditch field will be lit at night so you can ditch til your hearts content.

It does get cold at night so bring extra blankets. If fires are allowed they will be in designated fire rings only. There is plenty of wood to burn on site.

I think that about covers it and I hope this helps. See you all there!

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/06 02:38 Hrmm... how is the ditch field specifically?

I know this is Colorado and the dirt and ground in the area can get packed in and can feel like solid rock (rocky mountains and all...)

Is there any grass?

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/06 03:09 There is grass. It has been really dry there so its not overly green. If your friends with Axgar on facebook he has pictures up of the site. If you look under Oso Mothers Day - picture 53 . If not let me know and Ill see if I can post a picture on here.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/09 21:50 Southern CO is never really LUSCIOUS green, more on the arid and has been for years so it is nothing new. So ditching wont be on soft comfy grass like Salt Wars (if you have been there), but fun none the less.

The ditch field is a fairly good size i would say, and they have cleared a lot from the field so injuries should be at a minimum.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/09 22:09 Additionally, my allergies when I go back to southern colorado flare up 50 times worse, so bring some medication.

Also, the weather down there has been fairly dry, but when and if the weather changes, it changes FAST. Pack for HOT and COLD/Wet.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/10 03:05 ... any grass is better than no grass the majority of the time. I'm not expecting a beautiful soft field like the Salt Wars site... or hell Ohio where grass grows freely...

I was just hoping that the field had some...

Anyway... no worries... I'm not too concerned... I've played near steep edges on actual rock...

Thank you though.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/10 15:21 ...as much as in Conifer? Kung Fu is about the cultivation of the spirit.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/10 16:00 In the fields, I would say just about as much in Conifer. Just not as green... He who laughs last didn't get it.

Re:2011 Rakis Site observations - 2011/06/12 09:09 A side note I would like to add is that it its in the mountains and woods so please drive carefully and safely there are wild animals that cross the road from time to time. So far none have come in or around the site but we would greatly apreciate it if no one left food open for animals to find.
