Colorado Springs Amtgard and Me - 2011/02/14 11:21 It's been nearly 2 years since I've played Amtgard in Colorado. When I left I parted with a fairly ominous statement about my feelings about the park that I've always been passionate about. I'm not here to champion my prediction, in fact I would have loved to have been proven wrong.

However, I've been back for two months and have talked to a number of people about Amtgard in this area. And, I have gotten a lot of the same responses as to why the park has gone dead. The truth is that a number people have been burnt out by the amount of drama that was being brought to the park. Be it personal drama, specific factions, or a terrible clash of styles brought to the area from a different LARP. People just got tired of it.

That's not to say that they don't want play the game. In fact I know a number of people who want to fight, want to play. But don't want to play at DM. They'd rather go do other things that make them happy then deal with people they don't like.

Because of this they've kicked around the idea that they want to start their own park somewhere else in the city and thus the history of DM is not some burden they have to carry. I personally support them in this decision and even volunteered to help them get the park off the ground. I've also gotten word that there is an attempt to resurrect DM... I also support this and am willing to do what is necessary in order to for that to happen.

However, I see it now, no matter what attempt. There is going to be a need for materials for either projects to leave the ground. From what I'm hearing from the "New park" party. No one has their own stuff. I mean I have a couple swords but it's not enough to get some participants in any type of game. And if there are any new people who seem interested... they're screwed on park expansion.

As it stands right now, I have the free time necessary to promote the crap out of Amtgard in this area. I also believe that there is a lot of untapped growth in this ever expanding city for Amtgard parks. And at the bare end of it all. I just want to hit someone.

i probably wont start playing again unless there is some consistant skill in town. spent too many afternoons on beautiful days by myself. i also tried to convince some CKers to move up here to no avail yet. good luck. Jordanos 2, because the Jordanos account is locked!

i don't want to come off as rude, but if there is to be any reviving, you can't be coming across all high and mighty saying you won't go unless there is skill.

imo, if you are the best, you challenge yourself, do 1v2 or 1v3 in ditches, and so on and so forth. the skill level in your group will raise in time.

if that is the mindset you have, i feel that's just selfish. i would rather play a game like amtgard with fun people than mow my yard

I don't know who Balisk (in that I've never met him) is but I'd be willing to take them off of his hands if he'd be so inclined.

The snow discs would be especially helpful...

As for the drama... I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

I have learned that if you want to build up a park, just go and fight, even if there are two or three people. If you want good fighters, show them what you know. They will be good at the game soon.
