Re:IM land schedule (spring 2011) - 2011/03/21 17:10 I don't care anymore about all the 'they say' stuff lol. I've heard, no visits, park death, too many visits, park death, the northerns ruin everything, the northerners are ok, we want support from the empire, we hate the empire, we're going to leave the empire, no we're staying, our park is dead, our park is back, etc and on and on and on...

the rumors of grumbling is old and tired, and exists no matter what seems to be done. I think "they" (whoever they are lol) enjoy the complaining and grumbling and like putting themselves in that position where it's everyone else's fault but theirs, when it comes down to it, you gotta look at what happens at the park each week and what each person does to promote or condemn growth, change, and good attitude, etc. what can you do for your park? basically. you can only extend your hand, get bitten, and then extend your hand again so many times before you stop and say "I'm not going to get bit again".

Oh well... there's still sentiment down here with insular opinions about "Denver" that I'm still trying to shake. I mean there's a couple people here who have been playing for like close to 9-10 years who have a seriously big ingrained opinion about "outsiders".

Would have been nice to have a sit down with our current small group and go over why the things are the way they are and possibly how they could change.

I spent weeks apon weeks traveling to DM trying to hash things out with Krell and Old man T (Monarch & PM) along with anyone else who would sit down and listen and talk during my last reign. I have extended hand after hand to form a bridge, and DM planned a camp-out so DM would not have to interact with the monarchy of the empire, I'm not sure what DM wants nor how to give it.

But if you're going to kill the one scheduled date you have to come down here. I understand.

I can go week by week though the rest of the reign and give you a reason for every weekend on why I can't be there. I wish I could sit down as a monarch, or hell even as a person, and see every little thing that will pop up in a 6 month window. The fact is I didn't know I was going to RM a month ago, this just popped up.

I mean they did say that the frequent visits (I'm guessing the Clue reign) from "Denver" was part of the reason why the park died. No visits might actually grow the park

The "clue" reign tried everything they could to make Amtgard as fun as they could for everyone, including DM, they tried to grow DM by talking to passer-bys and jazz.

Last I heard the DM was dead, and I don't remember seeing that the park was up and running again. Kain and Duhtch have spent time talking, emailing, texting me on what is almost a weekly basis to inform me how the park is going for the last month or two. They have been traveling, making it know NH amtgard is alive to some means.

In the end, I don't know what DM want's nor how to help it.

I read as what Grendel was saying maybe differently than what you interpreted it to be.

I think what Hannibal is asking for is more communication. There is nothing wrong as we all need more communication whether it be amtgard, relationships/friends, heck even work.

From my limited time here, people get way too butt hurt here. Maybe this has happened for a long time, well guess what, change it. There are do'ers, then there is everyone else. The problem here is that change is SLOW.

Lokin, what would you like to happen? I think that straight up cancelling your park day probably isn't the best choice, but as I read it, it said based on park health. As Hannibal has said, Kain and myself have been reviving NH, trying to recruit, communicating here on the boards and with other amtgarders.

"Is DM meeting?" "Nope dead/dufunct"

I have seen your post since then looking to revive DM, but with no interest so far. How are things going down there?

I have family in the Springs and next time I go down there, I would love the chance to meet up with you, drink a beer and sling some foam. Good luck with everything, I would just like to encourage you to not let misfortunes weigh on you too much and keep pushing forward. Your hard work will be rewarded in the future.

Re:IM land schedule (spring 2011) - 2011/03/23 00:09 Both sides could really stand to do better with communication at this point.

Unfortunately, the word from DM has been exceptionally spotty as far as letting the rest of the Empire know what's going on. As far as any of us up north knew, DM was pretty much dead; while Lokin indicated that he was interested in getting things running again, there was no real follow up or indication that anything was happening with it other than the initial expression of interest. Even something like "hey, we had two people out this weekend" to let peoe know there is at least a pulse down there would probably help a lot.

On the Empire side, it'd probably be better to provide some justification up front other than just "I'm going to RM" when canceling the game day. Perhaps some potential discussion of whether or not there will be a need to re-schedule, or even an apology for not being able to re-schedule would have been appropriate. Otherwise, it seems like a slap in the face to those people who are expecting a visit; basically it's saying "I've got better things to do than keep the appointment." I think Lokin was justified in his frustration on that point. The defensive nature of the response from both parties probably doesn't help things, either.

There is obviously some interest in an Imperial visit, despite what the impression the Kingdom has gotten from DM's leadership in the past. As such, I would like to formally request that the Empire consider the current status of Darkmoon, and see if there is any possible way to fit them back into the Imperial schedule. While unavoidable scheduling conflicts do occur, I think we owe it to the group as a member of the Kingdom to see if there is another time that would work for everyone involved to make sure they are still recognized and included.

And Lokin, I for one would be interested in hearing more info on your recruiting efforts in DM, or even in what is happening as status quo for the group. If you want to start up a short "we're still breathing down here" blog-type post in the DM forum, that'd be sufficient to inform the Empire that there is still some interest down there. Maybe with both sides communicating more effectively, conflicts like this can be avoided in the future.

Re:IM land schedule (spring 2011) - 2011/03/23 02:06 I notified a couple weeks ago we had about 13 at the park on Facebook. Since then there have been about 5-10...

I Also have been notified that there are two brothers that are interested. Who want to come out next week.

Truth is that there's a multitude of differing opinions from this small group and it's difficult to hone it into "let's build this park"

Some think that numbers are going to magically pop up overnight if they contact the right people... because that is how it's always been. And I'm not too sure that this time it's going to work like that.

I and maybe one or two others are willing to demo or and put up flyers and when we can we will.

Another way of putting is that some asked me to deal with any and all stuff dealing with anything outside of the park. Because those people have a soured opinion of what politicking is. Because all they have ever known was drama.

I will do my best to post a bit more on this site.

A lot of the old guard who previously did the footwork to build the park last time are gone or busy. And as I can see it's a park without a decided identity. I was hoping that with the diminutive size the park is in right now, an outside opinion would help get everyone on the same page.

Re:IM land schedule (spring 2011) - 2011/03/23 14:10 You gotta be that guy, or someone in your group. think about how effective it has been for outside influences to lead the park. y'all need to find your identity, collect yourselves together, and work toward a goal. fuck the old guard, what is important is who is there now. who is here now, focus on the now, focus on the current park. let go of the old issues, move forward. man is only balanced moving forward. I would sit down with your group and say "what do you guys want for this park? what do you want for amtgard in C Springs? what would you like this park to be like in 6 months? in a year? in 3 years?" get everyone involved, they'll likely start sharing once someone asks, and then listens. you need to keep the talk organized, and focused, and respectful of each other. people are all different, some people hate to be interrupted and will shut down, or begin to go off on old beefs and gripes. basically, you're dealing with a chaotic entity that needs to listen to each other and connect to each other and not turn to old bullshit. they need to shut up and listen, shut up and listen, shut up and listen, from my experience. the group needs to be put before the individual. y'all need a coach to mediate and direct the energies of the park toward positive growth, respect for each other, and fun. if you have some person come down once a month or every other month or just once every 6 months to say"hey guys let's all have fun" (or whatever) that is going to have little impact once they leave.

If you have someone within the group doing this EVERY week, it's going to have greater impact. maybe you don't want to be that guy, and maybe this isn't your strong point. but damnit, nobody gets any better at anything without effort and repetition. and nobody ever grew without facing adversity and breaking through that wall. and you are somebody, you do have the potential. you care, it's obvious. and caring is enough. now you take it to the next level, you take action, and you pound on that stubborn nail until it goes in brother. and over time, they will begin to move, they will begin to respect what you are doing. they will begin to notice and to move with you and to believe! they are filled with doubt. you will overcome that doubt. it will take time and effort. but it will pay off, hard work does pay off. anyway, talk to your people, organize a group meeting, get a talking stick (only the person with the stick talks), get with your people and choose to be responsible to yourselves. create your goals, imagine your goals being real. if you can imagine it, you can make it real. the human brain is a goal seeking mechanism. it needs goals, it seeks them. the better you can imagine, the easier it is to make real.  if your goal is 40 people at the park every week, imagine and picture that 40 person park. imagine and picture each face, what their garb looks like, what their favorite class is. help your park to realize this. realize, to make real. "if you will it, it is no dream" - herzl"
