is there anything wrong with assasin? - 2009/08/27 23:54 i personally think it just doesnt fit the name. more of a rogue than an assasin, unless you count the poison stuff.

now i see teleporting as an ability to be used AFTER attacking. sneak up, hit with poison weapon, and then teleport away to safety, though i have seen it used differently. this sorta fits "assasin" but it makes your ability to kill someone rest in your own personal abilities. so any assasin who cant sneak or hide naturally sucks, lol.

i personally think assasins abilities shouldnt be focusing on escape but rather infiltration.

i purpose a different abililty from teleport that i have come to call shadow walk (dont really care what its called)

similar to sanctuary the target cannot be attacked by anyone within 20 ft.

basically instead of teleporting to a set location and being "out of game" till arrival, a player selects a target person. They are "out of game" and considered the targets shadow, completely unseen by those without keen eyes of an archer (i also purpose scouts can find them by tracking, noticing an extra pair of foot prints or such). The Assasin ends the spell by striking the target, possibly killing him. They can follow the target as long as they want, waiting till the most inconvenient time to attack, but once they attack, they are back in game and must rely on there own skills to escape certain doom from the victims angry comrades.

if the chosen target suddenly dies without the assasin taking any action, the assasin is prematurely revealed (no switching targets!!! target chosen at beginning of spell)

I fully intend this to replace assasins teleporting abilities.

instead of having many abilities to aid their escape and relying on there own skills to preform assinating, i would honestly suggest the opposite. therefore an assasin worth would be measured on if they can make it out alive to pull it off again.

i understand if you dont like it, but its an idea i'd prefer.

i would like honest opinion, but if you intend to shoot it down, please do it kindly

P.S. in a game if full class ring the bell, teleporting is a cheap way to win, but very effective. I've noticed that not everyone thinks about using it, any wizard that can cast it or assasin should use it often in these games to gain an early lead

Re:is there anything wrong with assasin? - 2009/08/31 21:42 glad you like it. there are of course some issues. rules must be layed out for it and such. like i would make it so you must have line of sight of the target before the spell is finished.

if its considered too powerful i'd stipulate that an assasin cant use assasinate or poison weapon while using this ability.

also, i would include that the target can be friend or foe. based on the way i wrote the ability, one could be the shadow of an ally, and simply wait to reveal himself until the ally needed help. like a monk goes into sanctuary and walks almost all the way to the enemy base, and the assasin became his shadow before he went into sanctuary, suddenly a monk attacks and then out from his shadow an assasin also appears. if combined with a few wizards teleporting some bezerking barbars in, it could be a lethal surprise attack. lol

but i forget the rules on sanctuary so i dont know if that would work. but hell, its an interesting idea.
