Althing Discussion: Proposal #3 - Althing Sit-Down Discussion - 2010/05/10 15:45
Proposal 3: Add the following o the Iron Mountains Corpora, and re-number all subsequent sections appropriately:
12.A.b.6. At least one week prior to the close of voting, the Imperial Monarch will chair an in-person discussion of the proposals on the ballot. The Imperial Prime Minister will ensure that ballots are available at the discussion for all eligible voters to use if desired.
Rationale: In recent history, participation in the Imperial Althing process has been virtually non-existent. Since the removal of the sit-down althing, the average althing proposal/election ballot has received less than 10 votes; in the most recent two althings, there have been a total of four or less votes in each althing. In general, people tend to be more inclined to participate and vote if they are reminded in person of their ability to do so. This proposal encourages participation in the althing process by giving people an open forum in which to express their opinions that is now lacking in our process with the removal of the sit-down althing. This proposal does not require attendance at the sit-down portion; it encourages it in an attempt to increase the number of voters who are participating in the democratic process. No changes will occur to the current method of submitting or tallying votes by this proposal.
