Jan 2nd: Frost Wars - 2009/12/29 23:29 Jacob, Matthew and myself shall be back in Colorado Springs tomorrow. We are planning on driving up to Black Forest for Frost Wars Saturday morning.

Are any others from Darkmoon planning on attending?

We have a bit of room if anyone needs a lift.

Re:Jan 2nd: Frost Wars - 2010/01/02 01:31 We are headed up to Black Forest about 0900 tomorrow morning from Peterson AFB. I haven't heard if anyone else is planning on attending, so if not, I'll give a quick AAR tomorrow night.

The fight starts at 1000 hrs. The address is 4800 Shoup Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80908-3830. From Petterson AFB it's straight north on 83 about 20 miles.

The weather tomorrow is projected to be about 38*f and partly cloudy.

Re:Jan 2nd: Frost Wars - 2010/01/04 16:42 Went out to Black Forest on Saturday to take part in this event. There were about 25 people present including myself, boys No. 1 and 2.

The weather was as projected, cold and with lingering snow on the ground. We got a touch of heavy snow later in the day with lightning and thunder to go with it.

The differences between the groups isn't too significant although this was a more historically based with heavy contact weapons, wooden sheilds, and close combat rules.
More on the level of the SCA in combat, with additional graple rules.

The members fought very well for the most part and I enjoyed it very much. Because it was a more physical event (contact), I took away a gash on the chin, a contact cut on the ear and rapped knuckles on my sword hand. However, as I gave as good as I got, I wasn't too worried about it.

Event wize it was ok. The games were structured well and flowed fast. It wasn't a 'War' in my opinion, more of a skirmish, but most enjoyable.

One thing about the group- They train for fighting. It was apparent very quickly that a majority of the group have worked on techniques out of the historical manuals. Some fought as well as any of the belted SCA fighters I have spared against over the years.

If people are intrested in learning fighting from a historical standpoint I would reccomend looking into them.

I was sad to see no one from this group there, although I heard that there was some bad blood from last years event, and even that there was a seperate event with this group planned for the 2nd. I am more sad that nobody thought to mention it to myself.

Anyway, see you next weekend.
