Greetings and a couple questions. - 2009/12/16 13:01Hello Everyone,
I am Shidub, i come from West Gate Pass of the Kingdom of the Desert Winds, i come to seek guidance. but first a little about me.
I found out about Amtgard from a friend who came for a presentation at an anime club i had attended, it looked intresting, and the next day i went. I looked up the info the night before to have an idea but there is so much to this that i didnt go in knowing much. I was undeclaired and took the time tell next week to learn more but the magic was too much for me and thus i went with a fighting class, a monk, i have been a monk for the last 6 weeks, but the magic classes have still intrrested me and thus i been looking into it and im starting to understand it. But there is some i do not. I posted this on my home fourms but they can sometimes be slow to respond and kind of wanting a faster reply since it is my days off right now. So have coppied and pasted it here below. I appreciate any help i can aquire here. Thanks.
Shidub
Ok i have been looking into the magic/spellcaster classes and starting to understand it some but not fully. i see in the chart for spell points it has
First Level Magic Name Type School Uses Cost/Max Range Bladesharp/Bludgeon E Sorcery 1/game 1/4 T Cancel S Sorcery Unlimited 0/- 50' Heat Weapon S Flame 1/life 1/4 20' Honor Duel S Sorcery 1/life 1/4 20' Iceball B Subdual 1 bolt/U 1/2 -- Imbue Shield E Protection 1/game 1/4 T Magic Bolt B Sorcery 1 bolt/U 1/4 -- Shove S Sorcery 1/life 1/4 20' Stun Weapon E Subdual Unlimited 0/- T Talk to Dead S Spirit 1/game 1/- T
so i have 10 points, i would use them as the cost then? so for example i spend the 10 points as such
Bladesharpen/bludgeon (costing me 1 point) Cancel (uses 0 points? sort of like a free spell as it only cancels your own magic) Heat Weapon (spend 2 points on it to be able to use it twice per life) Honor Duel (costing 1 point) Iceball (1 point for 1 ball at a time?) Imbue Shield (1 point) Magic Bolt (2 points for 2 balls at a time?) Shove (2 points for 2 uses per life) Stun Weapon (another free spell?)
that would use up all 10 points. as i understand this anyways. So with Cancel and Stun Weapon it listed the cost/max as 0/- which i take to mean it doesn't cost any spell points and there is no max level as they are unlimited uses. But the spell Talk to the dead has cost/max as 1/-, would this indicate that it costs 1 spell point per use, which is 1 per game, but there is no max number of points that could be put in the spell?
And also with the level 4+ and with each level up, with level 2 we get 10 points in both level 1 and level 2 spells, same with level 3 getting 10 points in 1/2/3 level spells, but at level 4 it goes to 7 points in level 1/3 spells and 8 points in level 2/4 spells.
this is all one question really but at each level do you get to reselect the spells for use or do you get those as additional points to what you already used?
and finally with the weapon use in spell caster classes,
Weapon Costs for Magic-users (from available magic points): Cost per 10 points of magic. (Multiple weapons must be paid for, even if of the same type.) Weapon Bard Druid Healer Wizard Dagger 0 0 0 0 Short 3 2 3 2 Long 4 4 5 4 Spear - 4 - 3 Staff 2 2 3 2 Hinged - - 3 - Shield 3 4 3 - Bow - 5 - -
i know we get a free dagger but say, as a wizard, i wanted a short sword, it would cost me 2 points per 10 that i am allotted, so at level 1 i would really have 8 points, level 2 i would have 16 points total and level 3+ i would have 24, it is my choice where the points would come out of(ie what level spells it would be subtracted from) or evenly distributed over the levels?
Thats all for now, 3 main questions and info on my understanding of it. Hope someone can clarify this for me. thanks.

Re:Greetings and a couple questions. - 2009/12/21 00:04either thios site is dead or no one can help me...i have gotten most of my answers but i still had 1 main one. in the spell list, it has the "cost/max" column, for example it says Iceball is 1/2. Am i correct is assuming that this means it costs me 1 spell point for each use of the spell with a maximum of 2 uses that can be placed in the spell. Also along the same lines with this the spell Cancle has it as 0/- does this make it a free spell, ie i dont have to put points into this to have it, and with it being unlimited (due to it only effecting your own magic) you dont have to put extra points to it. And the final question with this reguard is the spell Talk to Dead, it has 1/-, this would indicate you could put any number of your spell points into and be able to use the spell that many times per game with no limit apart from advaiable spell points.
1 main question but 3 parts to it. Hope i can get an answer on this, but looks like this site is almost dead so i hope that someone is still hanging around and can help a newbie like myself who is trying to understand. thanks,

Re:Greetings and a couple questions. - 2009/12/21 06:43This forum is not dead, I personally need a rule book and you to help you. Magic is something I would only explain in person.

yes, cost/max means the cost to buy 1 spell of that kind, and maximum number of that spell you can buy.
cancel is unlimited and doesn't cost anything.
and yes talk to dead is cost 1 per spell, you can buy as many as you have points for etc.Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy. Hús Vetra Skald

Re:Greetings and a couple questions. - 2009/12/23 19:50oh yeah, and spell points left over are distributed evenly, or as close as possible, sometimes you'll have a point list that will be 4 pts, next level 3 points, next level 4 pts, next level 3 points, etc.Strike First. Re:Greetings and a couple questions. - 2009/12/24 19:12Some folks just find certain concepts harder to explain over text than others. It happens. Right now is a busy time for most folks with lots of people out of town and all over the place busy with the holiday season. So that is why this forum seems a little slow this week.Casca Eruoy
