New player in Colorado Springs - 2009/12/15 15:57 I've been in COS for about a year, looking for a group to join. I've been doing various fighting games for several years, in Texas, Indiana, and now here. I've been in contact with the Darkmoon group and will be out this weekend.

I also have two sons that are intrested. One is 16 and has been doing this for three years, the other in 13 and has started training last year. The oldest will be joining, the younger when he is old enough.

I do have a few questions.

I am what you would call a heavy fighter. I've put together a 11th century Norse impression with rivited chainmail, helm, round shield and sword. In our last group I was usually in the midst of the shieldwall. I have also built a danish greataxe, but I am not too sure that it is up to amtgard standards.
Does this sort of impression fit into the Empire's view of things?

I've also got the beginnings of a 15th century man-at arms impression. This one has a breastplate, sallet, and greatsword. While it is a lighter weight it has the limitations of the weapon.

My biggest question is what does the Empire need?

Looking forward to meeting you all.

I've done a little SCA, Amtgard is not about power hitting but timing, speed, and footwork. Large armor kits are not needed for normal play, but you can wear them in battlegames if you would like. Rakis is the empires big event which host about 300 each year, armor kits are used a lot then in those battlegames.

As for your great axe, you can find the rulebook here and figure out if it may or may not be legal. I'm not sure how often Darkmoon plays Battlegames so you may want to look into classes if you care about that.

You mentioned you were bringing others with you, you might want to look in to this.

The biggest thing the empire needs is more people!

Re:New player in Colorado Springs - 2009/12/16 05:10 Cool, I think I will be coming down after the next 2 week for some personal stuff. I should be stopping by the park for some fun as well, look forward to seeing what you have in the bag. The Empire will aslo be going around and the dates should be posted in 2-3 weeks, granted plan fall into place.

Hannibal
