Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/27 15:38 Proposal #2: Demolishing the IM Castle

It is proposed that the Empire of the Iron Mountains agrees to dispose of the IM Castle in whatever manner the leadership deems appropriate, and to forgo any further use of the castle at local and/or inter-kingdom events until a suitable replacement can be created. Furthermore, it stipulates that the Empire will require this disposal to occur prior to the end of the calendar year 2009. A Yes vote for this proposal is for demolishing the castle; a no vote is for continuing to use, store and transport the castle.

Rationale: The IM castle has unfortunately been steadily deteriorating over recent years, to the point where it no longer appears safe for use on the battlefield. Through the consistent set-up and tear down of the castle over many years, the castle has sustained significant structural damage, and poses a major injury hazard and liability to the Iron Mountains if it continues to be used in the manner it has previously. In addition, the castle is costing the Empire approximately $1500 per year in storage and transportation expenses, and is primarily only used for the Rakis event. This proposal aims to request from the populace that the castle be demolished in order to save the Empire a significant sum that could be better used toward the running of the Empire, and toward the funding of Rakis. Research is being done on a way to potentially build another castle that would be safer for continued use, as well as hopefully take up significantly less storage space than the current one. It is the hope that by saving money in storage costs, we might be able to afford to put the labor into building a bigger and better castle for use further down the road.

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/27 16:12 sounds good to me. if it passes, hopefully the IM monarchy rids the castle in some way that provides a benefit, like smash the castle for a couple bucks sorta thing. Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy.

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/27 18:56 The only difficulty I see with doing that is the timeframe involved. The Althing vote ends on Nov. 28th, which only gives us a month to dispose of the castle. Doing a "pay to destroy the castle" day, while cathartic, would be difficult to fit into the schedule for the first part, and for the second, would still leave us with the problem of having to transport and dispose of the now demolished portions of the castle.

Anyone have any good ideas for how to dispose of the castle? I was thinking either rent a truck and go to the dump, or rent a dumpster and have it hauled away. Renting the dumpster would allow for some entertaining demolition, but it would probably be more cost prohibitive. Other ideas?

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/28 13:57 valid points Kord. I'd like to see it demolished with a benefit, at least covering the cost to rent something to pull it out to the dump, and with this short time frame there isn't much opportunity for that. Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy.

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/28 14:43 The problem is, the longer we wait, the more the castle is costing us in the long run. The storage costs alone are $100 a month; this is by far the biggest maintenance expenditure that the Kingdom has currently. The short time frame is to ensure that we actually get rid of it quickly, rather than sitting on it and continuing to waste money that could be better used elsewhere. While I see the benefit of trying to do it as a fundraiser, I fear that the benefit we'd receive would be wasted in paying for further storage costs, since it'd be very difficult to put together a fundraiser in the short time frame specified by the proposal.

Now, if people want to haul off portions for their own use/destruction and storage, I'd be all about that. As long as the castle isn't being paid for out of Imperial coffers, I could really care what ultimately happens to it.

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/10/29 06:59 Has E-bay or craigslist been considered for disposal?

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/12/10 00:21 When and where? I'll pitch in, I just need the details. Revelation 6:8 - And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. "Death is no respector of persons, it takes the babe and the mother, the flower and the tree."

Re:Althing Proposal Discussion: Prop 2 - 2009/12/10 01:37 Looks like we will meet at my house at 10:15AM outside of boulder, then once we get a far amount of people are there, we will head to the unit to load the castle onto Axgar's truck. Once it's on Axgars truck we can hang at my place or head to Brighton.

When: Dec 12th 10:30AM
Where: Meeting at my house going to boulder
Why: Some people don't want a castle!
