Fort Collins Homecoming Parade - Interest Check - 2008/09/15 05:19The Northern Holdfast is considering being a part of Fort Collin's annual Homecoming Parade, in an effort to attract new members to our rather floundering park attendance of late. The opportunity to parade our game around in front of a city's populace seems like an invaluable opportunity to gain some new blood in our park, especially considering it is a college town at heart.
The issue arising appears to be the cost of joining the event, totally roughly half our present funds in order to march in the parade. There's some debate at the park as to whether such a venture is fiscally responsible for us to attempt, or if the funds could be better spent elsewhere.
Registration closes (rather, the price doubles for late entries) as of the 19th of September, and I've heard varying interest in being able to or wanting to march in the parade.
The parade is on Friday, October 10th, at 5pm. We march through the center of town, onto the college campus itself. While themes such as 'it's easy to be green' or 'colorado state school spirit' are things we'd have to contend with, I don't see a horrendous difficulty in adhering to the parade's guidelines for marching.
I rather envision us with a large truck, open bed, with some folks in the back of it, along with a mess of us around the vehicle. Folks will fight out front of the truck, others will walk alongside the crowd in our most fanciful, elaborate garb, displaying our weaponry, pimping the local park, etc, while folks in the truck either sing, wave, or hand out waterbottles to our eager ditchers.
I'm writing this as a quick poll of interest, and will decide whether the park will be attending based off of it. If you could make such a date and time, up in our lovely little town of FoCo, either alone or with some other folks from your park, would you?
Your deadline for this little post is Thursday or so.Quiet

Re:Fort Collins Homecoming Parade - Interest Check - 2008/09/16 03:54I'm thinking we'd meet at the park, then leave for our locational place to start at around 4:30. Thus saving the trouble of finding parking and the like.Quiet

Re:Fort Collins Homecoming Parade - Interest Check - 2008/09/17 21:13I never really was one for taking other people's input anyway.
We're signed up. I'll probably get a call questioning us routinely about what our place will be. "You're gonna swing weapons at each other? Oh, they're foam. Gotcha."
Cruz, that business card idea might fly as something to hand out to the folks going 'ooo, ahhh'. How many of those would you be able to crank out by the 10th?
Rafeki, I trust in your ability to kick, pull and extort people into coming up here for this little shindig.
No worries, Grendel. Events is events, and the timing is just bad. Alas.
So yeah, start calling around, folks. It's around the time of an event, but we'll do what we can with the bums who will still be around town.
I'm also looking around for awesome pieces of garb, weaponry (legal, doubt they'll let us bring steel on the street), costumes, and so on and so forth. Donations from other parks would be most appreciated, and I can get 'em back soonest afterward. 970 231 8701, most any time of the day or night.
Finally, anybody got an open backed truck? Handy for a place to put bottled water for our fighters, and to hang banners upon. Also for hot singers, or hot... hotties. Also good.
The path's clear, folks. I've done my part. S'up to each one of you at this point.Quiet

Re:Fort Collins Homecoming Parade - Interest Check - 2008/09/17 23:52Business cards are okay to hand out, as opposed to throw around randomly. Might go against the whole 'green is easy' theme of the parade.Quiet
