Business Card - 2008/09/10 19:02To help promote new players at our park(or any park really) i figured an EASY thing we can do is create a business card to hand out with information on our park
-What do we want to put on it? -Spring park @ 1pm is a given... -Quotes? what you need? cost? etc.
-Contact info? -set up a "northern holdfast" email? just a thought...
-What color do we want it? -white would probably be best... -What pictures do we want on it? -Weapons? Fighting? Garb? the park? -keep in mind that it is going to be a VERY small pic....
-2 sided or 1 sided?
Please give me your feedback as i would like to have them done and printed by october 1st!!!!Cruz Hús Vetra Skald "Sand is over rated, it is just a bunch of tiny rocks..." "The more you sweat during practice the less you bleed in battle"

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/10 20:17make sure it's easily read at business card size. that's quite a bit of info/detail for one side.. not sure how it looks at business card size, have you viewed it shrunken down?Dragoon Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy. Hús Vetra Skald IMU

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/10 22:13Seems slllightly all over the place. Maybe do a Flyer/Business Card duo
Like hand 'em a card that has the Contact information and a where, When and the name of the Monarch and/or PM... and then also hand 'em a flyer that elaborates more on what the game is about?

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/11 08:52the idea is that you only need a card though because i will not always have a flyer on me... I do agree though... it is alot of info for one side. maybe just bulleting info? that gets boring and cheesy though... Anything else?Cruz Hús Vetra Skald "Sand is over rated, it is just a bunch of tiny rocks..." "The more you sweat during practice the less you bleed in battle"

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/11 15:01for many business card printing companies you can print on both sides of the card. may be a touch more expensive though.
i'd pick something fairly simple, graphics wise.
put "Amtgard", "The Northern Holdfast" and "Empire of the Iron Mountains" and prolly "Fort Collins, CO" on it somewhere fairly prominant
include an email address, phone number, and website. you can prolly include the park and every sunday@1pm without too much risk, just remember they might change.
come up with a single sentence that explains amtgard effectively and clearly, avoid silly humor because your audience may not get internal jokes or find it funny. "cuz hitting people with sticks is fun!" prolly isn't great, but "Live action role play, combat, arts and crafts." might work.
and call it good. keep it simple."But right now I'm a little concerned about my pants, since I don't know where they are." - Valathina Nailo

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/11 21:10I agree with Rewth. You want something simple. It needs to grab attention and present its message with one glance. The graphic you use should be limited to one or two colors. One is best, though. Especially if you are having them professionally printed where you might have to pay by the color. The information beyond the name should be limited to contact info and a tag-line. If you're doing something on the back I would make it a small map with directions.
If you want to present more information I would suggest creating a tri-fold brochure. It gives you the chance to put in more information and pictures. Good design is still important but you will have a little more room to work with.
Just my two cents.

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/11 23:15Cruz, Cards are an awesome tool to use to recruit members to the club. It is small enough to fit into a wallet/purse which is great because even if we only have a persons attention for a few minutes in the short-term, in the long-term this can make someone remember us when they happen to pull out the card weeks or even months later.
I use Print Shop Pro to create the business cards that we have used in the Demo's over the past few years and I print them using a standard ink jet printer. This way you can get decent cards with full color at a good price. You can buy the business card printer sheets at any office supply store for under 15.00 for 200 cards. If you do two sided cards be careful when buying the paper, make sure it says two sided, otherwise one side will just smear after printing. You are more than welcome to come and use my copy of the software to design your own. It is pretty robust and offers a ton of ready made graphics.
My cards are two sided, have a nice border, a sword and shield on the front, and say: (Front) Amtgard of Colorado Live Action Fantasy Combat www.amtgardrecords.com/atlas
(Back) A nice border, all of the local group names/websites, and a watermark that says Amtgard of Colorado.
I placed the ORK Atlas on the front as this takes the person to a nice map of the U.S. showing all of the chapters. I figured that having them realize this is not just a small local group will make them more comfortable with joining. Also, even if the person requesting information is not from Colorado, they still can get to information regarding their local groups from our business card.
I tried not to make the card to wordy, or to busy with graphics and tried to focus primarily on the physical aspect of the game. For example, please note that I say "combat" instead of "Role playing". This is for two reasons. 1) We in Amtgard are pretty minimalistic when it comes to actually role playing. 2) Role Playing carries with it a stigma of nerdy fat guys in tights running around shouting "By Grubthars Hammer!!!". If you do notice someone seems to be more interested in the arts/sciences of Amtgard, you should focus your discussion towards that while you have them in front of you, if you try to detail all of the pieces of Amtgard on a single business card you would lose your audience quickly. A good rule is, can your card get their attention enough to decide to keep it between the time they pick it up and the time they reach the nearest trash can.

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/12 22:32We have a fighter practice in Firestone and there has been talk of starting a park in the Longmont/Firestone area, but nothing official as of yet.

Re:Business Card - 2008/09/15 19:14Nice. The only concern I would have is if the font size of the print on the back of the card. As long as you can still read it after the printing then these are perfect. Simple, not to busy, and grants the reader pertinent information. Well Done
