Re:bucklers aren't legal? - 2008/08/19 01:18 No they just erased the term "Buckler" from the rulebook.

They're no longer termed "Bucklers" they are now just classified as a "small center grip shield"

Here's the specifics:

PASSED (GV) Buckler Terminology

oo. Perceived Issue: 'Buckler' is terminology used in the Rules of Play that currently only serves to confuse new players. The definition of 'Shield' present in the Rules of Play explains beyond the shadow of a doubt that shields can be strapped to your arm.

pp. Recommended Change: Remove all references to Buckler in the Rulebook, as no class is restricted to only 'Bucklers', this will have no impact on the game itself.

Re:bucklers aren't legal? - 2008/08/19 20:10 I think you probably heard Khanar and I talking about that. The discussion stemmed from this version of the rules changes we read. See line C. I'll be honest tho, this is part of a big post on the rules changes that came across one of the lists and I am not sure of the original souce. Bolding is mine.

29. PASSED (GV) Buckler Terminology

a. Perceived Issue: 'Buckler' is terminology used in the Rules of Play that currently only serves to confuse new players. The definition of 'Shield' present in the Rules of Play explains beyond the shadow of a doubt that shields can be strapped to your arm.

b. Recommended Change: Remove all references to Buckler in the Rulebook, as no class is restricted to only 'Bucklers', this will have no impact on the game itself.

c. This is a bit complicated, and could probably be stated better. Basically, the goal is to say that all shields need to have a hand 'wielding' them in order for them to be effective. A punch shield is held only in the hand. A 'strap' shield is held in a hand and strapped to the arm for support. The only shield which doesn't require a hand to be wielding them is small shields, which are also sometimes called Bucklers. I recommend redoing the entire shields section with regards to more clearly stating this intent, and removing the reference to bucklers in general.
