Apathy IS contagious - 2008/07/28 05:15Apathy. Or should I make it all CAPS? APATHY!!! Yup, seems to be a common thing in part of the IM Kingdom now. Especially in the NH. That is, if there is an NH. Is there one? As of right now, I really don’t know. No one at the park today but Faust and me from 1 till 2. Numbers have been down, enough so we were last classified as a Barony. Are we (we?) still a barony or even a shire? Sure there is a sting about recruiting and once again. Just talk. Or is someone actually going make posters set up and carry out demos and make other contacts? But why bother to bring them in. It doesn’t help when you show up at the park to find yourself 3 newbs one regular and 1 visitor and that’s all. Why? Cause people were elsewhere without telling us few they would be late and not doing anything but talking when they did get there.. Sad thing is, haven’t seen the newbs or the visitor since. Know what else is sad? It’s when you announce that crown quals and tourney are due and not only does no one show any interest in declaring but almost half of those there turn their backs to the announcer. And I mean that literally. Well folks. It’s not like things in Amtgard run themselves. A few people actually have to care enough to keep it going by at least showing up and some of them taking the reins. Those that where doing so here when you started are mostly gone, so who is it up to now? YOU!!! And only you. As for me, today was the straw. Apathy is contagious. I caught it. I still plan on coming out, but as far as any positions go, I resign. My current plan is to come to the park next week and officially announce my resignation from my position of acting regent. I could say lots more, but, what’s the point?
To all of those of you who made it fun and kept if fun over the years, YOU have my utmost and heartfelt respect and thanks. It was especially enjoyable watching my boys grow up into the men that they are in the atmosphere that was the IM. For that I also thank you.

Faust called me and asked if I was going and to call everyone and get them to show up. So I texted everyone, and they were all at Clan (well on their way back). and I told Faust I was coming. unfortunately I came late because I was helping the wife clean some stuff in the house and time got past me. sorry Tom.
I showed up, waited 5 minutes, called Faust, then went to go home. then Ka'A and Scortch showed up and called me, so I went back to the park, we fought a little and then Riddick showed up so we all hung out for a little, then left around 4:30 ish.
I know how you feel Tom, I feel it too. DTM's out of town, Cruz and Rafeki have had to work the last couple weekends, Ariston and his girl and Quiet and Leo and Rafike and Cruz and Leo and Hunter all went to Clan this weekend, so it was some poor timing. Sorry you didn't know it was Clan weekend. I don't remember seeing you out last weekend otherwise you probably would have known. I'm struggling with this and will definitely need a break for a couple months after I step out of PM, Ariston said he'd be down to run for PM, but yeah no one has declared for NH standard officers. I'm running low on steam, Riddick has been a little burned out, sounds like you're burned out too. The NH is still here, but it's in flux, it's a fire that's down to coals, with 18 people sitting around it saying 'damn it's getting cold' and the same people that have been throwing new logs on it saying "I'm out of wood, can someone else throw some of their logs on?" and being met with chirping crickets. If everyone who is active finds at least one person to join then we will have doubled our numbers. I know it seems hard but if we truly care about getting more people in this then we have to act. My phone number is 970-631-7273 if ANYONE wants to discuss and act on our ideas. My mother is moving back to Louisiana at the end of this week to take care of some family so i will be busy helping her pack. After this week is over feel free to call me if ANYONE is seriously interested in rebuilding our park and our game as a whole. I always wanted to go to rakis and face a ditch or a castle battle of 500 or even a thousand+ active fighters. One person can make a difference. It would help a whole lot more though if everyone pitched in.To thine own self be true

Re:Apathy IS contagious - 2008/07/29 05:45One thing I've noticed from two parks I've been a part of is that many things can contribute to the lack of interest in a park. The first is the lack of wearing garb. Guys we need garb because it is a major factor in what we do and how we get people to come out. Otherwise we're just a bunch of tards beating each other with funnoodle covered sticks. And while that might be fun for most even beating the same people can get boring after awhile. Secondly is the acceptance of Amtgard time. If you are gunna make a committment to a group such as this then be there on time for it. I understand real life situations take control but do your honestly best to be punctual. Third is lack of Defenders to come up with fun and interesting battlegames. If you just throw something together that day it shows. If you didn't want to take the job and all the responsibility seriously then why not step down and let the next person who would be willing to do so, do it.
Stuff such as this can be severly frustrating to people like Storm and I. I know personally when I've noticed some of this stuff happen I've said to myself "Why the hell do I put time into not only showing up, but to get loaner garb/weapons/sashs and other items ready, only to have these guys show up for their credit. ditch for a bit, and then leave?" It has caused me to almost quit a few times but I try and give it a little more faith. It usually does get better though Storm but I wanted you to know I feel where your coming from.
Remember this is all just my opinion and in no way points the finger at any individual I just want everyone to know that Storm isn't just bitching to bitch. He has a valid point here especially when it's still mid summer.
