Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/08/02 15:04 It's never too soon to start the funding aspect . At this point i've got some sketches and plans started. I have the Model of the castle as it "should have been" that Jhonus built, and plan on talking with folks about using it as a starting point. In the next few weeks I should have basic plans and a preliminary cost estimate, assuming prices stay stable. The price of plywood has gone up recently, and I'm not willing to really compromise on materials at this time. so we may end up spending a big chunk of change. The hope though is that this cash outlay will last us even longer than the 8 years that the last one did, and leave us with a better product.

In short. start fundraising now if you can, I should have plans before the end of the summer.

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/08/02 21:24 why dont u submit the proposed design online here and we cast in ideas and suggestions so that it is a collection of all of our minds and ideas. Cuz honestly I like Brennon's castle, but it needed to be taller, it needed a height advantage. I like the idea of doors that can be battered down. It needs to function like a real castle, not just a road block u set up that u cant go around cuz of imaginary walls.

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/08/02 23:31 Have you seen the current incarnation of the castle? It has a definite hight advantage. I love the idea of practical doors and I am certainly open to hearing everyone's ideas, however if I am taking point on this I'm gonna make sure that thedesign is cohesive and practical.

The old theatre adage is true. Do you know how to get two designers to work together? Shoot one.

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/08/10 18:13 There are several craft shows in October and November. If we could have maybe some members make things for it or wrangle their parents into making something to donate for a booth

Examples are:

Knitting or crouching scarves and hats
Appliquéd pot holders
Handmade Candles (dipped or poured)
Candle holders
Ornaments
Jewelry
Leather Hair Doodads
Handmade soaps
Cloth bags
Painted Pots
Handmade Cards
Decorated Sisal door mats
The list goes on and on,

Even for those that are have challenges with sewing and crafts I have easy cut and sew Christmas Calendars, cut felting projects and other items that can be made in under a half hour and under $10.

Donations of materials would be good so that others can make things! Lets also remind people that donations are tax deductible and we can give them a thank you letter that states what they donated for their records.

If I hear that a few are able to help with this I will write to Jan Steger, who is in charge of the show's booths, and asked if the Mollie McGee's Craft Show would be willing to donate a space to us for use.

Also, if we could get a estimate I can start getting letters written and sent to companies asking for donations.
