Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/23 19:22That's probably not quite big enough. I think it will need to be over 8 feet tall. However, bugs are not as big a concern as water and weather, so maybe one of theos portable carport things. As long as we can keep it up off the ground. Perhaps I can try and fit a storage facility in to the overall castle budget.
Our two biggest issues in building the castle assuming we can get the motivation, will be procuring/renting/begging tools and space to do the build in. We will likely need a 20x20 relatively level space at the minimum for build, preferably more. Tools I would like to have the following at least:
Circular saw Wire feed welding machine Grinder Lots of screw guns/drills Wrenches/sockets C-clamps Carpenter's squares and levels Saw horses A work table at least 5x5 preferably 5x8 or 10 (plywood and sawhorses would work) Belt sander* Table saw* Router* Drill Press*
Those with * are not absolutely needed but would be awful nice.
Anyone know how to weld? I have basics, and a friend who I might be able to rope in is very good, but more talent is better, and honestly if we had 2 welders things would be much faster.

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/23 20:42May I ask, what parts are welded? I didn't get a good look at the workings of the castle, but I have a decent idea of a design that could break down into pallet size pieces and are similarly built with plywood over 2x4 frame that bolts together with 4x4 corner posts. Im looking at these pictures the only problem (in theory) with my design is the gate. Towers/walls are no sweat.
PS. I think in heavy duty terms

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/24 04:40Most of those I'm sure we can procure Via Ts'ki's dad or some other means but most of those are easily found I know Axgar has quite a bit of tools that the SG group could bring up. I have plenty of space outside and a shed with a decent workbench. We could even use it as an excuse for a campout on my property and have a castle battle the next day at our park. If this is a viable thing I will need time to level all the wild weeds in the back. Perhaps about 2-3 weeks? When there is no light, there is dark; When there is no dark, there is light; When there is both dark and light, there is Bendu

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/28 18:43Greetings from the Barony of the Ivory Tower!
At our midreign yesterday, I brought up this topic and how we could help, being as we are under the Iron Mountains.
A large number of our populace have attended Rakis over the last three years. Personally, I have not had the scheduled time off for it, this year I hope to. Every year the kids and adults alike return, and all we hear is non-stop talk about the "Awesome castle battles" and "That was totally awesome" combined with how they want to build a castle here (save me) and do castle battles. As you can imagine, the talk encourages people to go every year from our park, new and old alike.
That being said, the general consensus at our park was we'd be very sad to see the castle go, and even though we are far away, we would like to do what we can to help out should you guys decide to keep it, rebuild it, or whatever. The Iron Mountains will have our support either way it goes.
Yours in service, Lady Rosea To'mas Baroness of the Ivory Tower

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/29 04:10I recently have obtained a job in which i could possibly make a career out of. That being said i would more than be happy to help pitch in and build a new castle. I have always LOVED that feeling i get when invaders from the south charge through the front doors of our castle and we make our stand to slay as many as we can. It is something that can't in my eyes be taken away from rakis. It would not be the same.To thine own self be true

Re:From your less than happy Prince - 2008/07/30 09:07Thank you Rosea. What we need first and foremost is fundraising. I have a couple of ideas, but if folks would be willing to hold a "buy us a castle" bake sale, car wash, silent auction, donation tourney etc. we could get on this right away. I'm finalizing plans, and once that's done I should have a cost estimate.
If you can get the money out of Mundane's pockets instead of your own even better. We are at a minimum looking at a couple of grand for a total rebuild.
What would you all think about a "heraldry" auction, similar to what was done with the last castle, but with a new twist. a household, a group or an individual can "buy" each of the towers we are making. The purchase guarantees that the buyer's heraldry will be prominently displayed on that tower (some willhave flags, others shields, some may actually be painted in to the walls).
again that will require the final design to be done first.
And frankly if wehave the funds and folks want a smaller "skirmish" castle like the one from cln we could do that to...only one rule,it can'tbe that damn ugly.

I'd be willing to host and auctioneer another donation auction like was at last autumn midreign. That turned out to be quite successful.Casca Eruoy

I will see what we can do locally as we have a lot of support for a fundraiser out here for it.
I will drop you a pm via the forums or send you an e-mail when we have things finalized.
