Alright I brought up a question at Rakis of How the Jolly Roger got it's name.
A couple of theories got close but that's to the glories of the internet. (When not used just for Porn.) I found that the Origin of the Term is not proven any way.
Theories:
From the French words jolie rouge, meaning "pretty red"
another theory states that "Jolly Roger" is an English corruption of "Ali Raja", the name of a Tamil pirate.
Yet another theory is that it was taken from a nickname for the devil, "Old Roger". The "jolly" appellation may be derived from the apparent grin of a skull.
So In this thread post any theories you know. Or your own Crack addict or Crack pot theories.
