Conifer, CO 80433

Directions:

Exit onto I-70 west (towards Grand Junction).
Exit onto C-470 (only one direction possible).
Exit onto Hwy 285 west/south (towards Fairplay).
Go through Conifer. Just at the end of Conifer, exit onto Kennedy Gulch/Foxton Road.
Turn left, go under the bridge, and turn left again.
Site is less than a mile down the road, on the right.

From the South, take I-25 north to C-470.
Exit C-470 west (towards Grand Junction).

Landmarks - The Kennedy Gulch/Foxton Road exit is at the top of a hill. Just before the exit, you will see a strip mall with a big red Staples store on the right-hand side.
Signage will be posted sometime Wednesday afternoon. If you are coming up early, be sure to take your directions.
A map is available at http://www.mapquest.com/maps/11369+Foxton+Road+Conifer+CO/

Fees: Site fee is $25 dollars, which gets you in for the entire event, and a complementary colored wrist-band. Kids under 14 get a reduced entry fee of $10 for the event, and children under 10 are free.

Food: Four feasts will be provided. Friday and Saturday mornings will feature breakfast feasts, Friday night will be teriyaki chicken, and Saturday will be Chinese Take-Out Feast Spectacular.

Drinking: Rakis XIX is at a wet site, but we encourage our of-age attendees to drink responsibly. Underage drinking will not be tolerated, and may result in ejection from the event (with no refund) or a call to the police.

Smoking: Although we have had a wet year, Colorado is still under drought restrictions. As such, smoking is only allowed in designated areas; additionally, we get fined for every butt left on the site, so pick up after yourselves.

Fires: Fires are only allowed in the permanent fire-rings at most campsites. Moving fire-rings or building your own can result in a $1000 dollar fine for everyone around it (if the fire marshall catches you) or ejection from the event (if security catches you), as well as possibly causing us to lose the site (or set the state on fire). This has been a serious problem in past years; don't be part of the problem this year.

Parking: Limited parking is available at your campsites; overflow parking is available by the main lodge. Because the site is still open to the public during the event, we must keep the roadway clear. Additionally, there is no Amtgard parking in the Bark Park area; please keep it clear.

Pets: Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times, unless they are inside the Bark Park, no exceptions. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pets.

Medical: An emergency Med-O-Crat is on staff, but you are, for the most part, responsible for your own health. Make sure that you fill out and submit an event waiver at the gate, and note any important health conditions (allergies, persistant conditions, etc.) Event Waivers are also available online at http://rakis2008.com/index.php?option=com_fabrik&Itemid=5 or for download at http://rakis2008.com/downloads/waiver.pdf.

Weather: The forecast says highs in the low 60s to low 70s, with pretty chilly nights and a 10-20% chance of precipitation. Be sure to bring appropriate clothing and bedding. Even though we'll be working our way towards a full moon, bring a flashlight, too!

Altitude: The site is more than a mile above sea-level (8,278 ft, officially), so be sure to wear sunscreen, reapply it often, and drink plenty of water. Also watch for the signs of altitude sickness: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude_sickness.

Gate: Gate opens at 3pm on Wednesday, and closes for good at 5pm Saturday.

Schedule:

Wednesday
3 p.m. Gate Opens
3 p.m. Castle Set-up

Thursday*
10 a.m. RP Tavern opens

Friday*
8 a.m. Breakfast (provided by the InterKingdom House of Pancakes)
12 p.m. Best of the Best Tournament (RP Tavern)
6 p.m. Teriyaki Bowl Feast
8 p.m. Bardic (Chapel)

Saturday
8 a.m. Breakfast (provided by Axgar)
10 a.m. JUGGING!!
2 p.m. Three Kingdoms War
5 p.m. Gate Closes
6 p.m. Main Feast, followed by Court

Sunday
Castle Break Down, Pack Up, Go Home

*Any times not scheduled will be filled with random ditching and potential battle games as interest warrants.

Volunteers are welcome and needed for basically everything: RP Tavern needs "walking targets," Gate and Shuttle need people to man them, Jugging and the Three Kingdoms War need reeves, the feasts need prep workers, clean-up, and servers, and of course we need help on clean-up Sunday morning... the list goes on and on. If you want to help out, volunteer sheets will be available at Gate, the RP Tavern, and the Logistics cabin (Cabin 1).

See you at Rakis!
Superstar, do you think you're what they say you are?

Tavern Update - 2008/06/09 21:38 Tavern Background info!

Okay - for those of you that are new to the whole "Iron Butterfly" experience, here's what's up. There will be food and beverages available for purchase with real world money.

We'll use looting rules. We'll have a PVP aspect to the game. Players are encouraged to get parties together, and having the toughest party is one way to "win". (there are other ways of course!)

The tavern management prefers to have no combat inside the Tavern itself. Tavern brawls between players will be responded to by the magistracy. Meaning, if you want to be collecting bounties, fighting other teams or kidnapping royalty or notable members of the populace, that's great. If you do it inside the tavern the keeper has been given god-like powers for the weekend to keep things to a minimum. Go kill each other outside.

There is one exception! Monsters have been known to attack within the tavern. If you're just there for food, be warned, sometimes stuff gets swung around.

So that the monsters know, if you want to be part of the fun - please have a class sash on when you're "playing". Likewise, if you do not want to be involved in fighting and the like, please do not wear a class sash to the tavern. Or in short: Class sash - you might get attacked. No class sash, no attack. WHILE IN THE TAVERN. (I will share that I find people whipping off their sash because they don't want to face the approaching hoard as chicken-$%#. If you wanna escape, run for it, blow a teleport spell, etc. be a real-playa!)

Our main goal is to have fun, and hopefully give you a memorable gaming experience. To that end I once again would love to have volunteers who would like to add to the monster staff. There are perks for playing monster for us!

And finally a plea. If you think role-playing is stupid, or just for flurbs or what have you, please don't accost those who want to Role-play. Because, lets face it, you also paid money to sit in the great outdoors and hit people with foam sticks.

I'd add to that- check your targets! Security peeps will be wearing bright orange sashes (fairly wide ones) with black "SECURITY" lettering on one side. If you see someone in a wide orange sash with no bow and a radio, they probably don't want to get munched.

Hopefully they are distinctive enough and the letters easily recognizable enough that they won't cause confusion. There aren't a whole lot of bright colors that wouldn't be clashing with one of the classes, unfortunately. (Perhaps in the future they'll have to be hot pink...)

Re:Tavern Update - 2008/06/10 22:05 I totally suggest Bright Pink. It's easy to recognize, and often cheaper. Our local gaming con ended up using bright pink for their staff cause they got a discount on vests, t-shirts and the like.

It's also less likely to be stolen or duplicated. For some bizarre reason lots of people don't like bright pink.

Re:Tavern Update - 2008/06/10 22:21 Part of me wishes I'd thought of pink earlier.

Naturally I would have "forgotten" to mention what color they were until we were all actually at the event...

Not all my questions have been answered... If this is the penultimate post, what then is the ultimate post?

Re:The Penultimate Post - All Your Quetions Answered! - 2008/06/11 03:52 I'll have a lovely little quest to chat with you about, Cio Cio. I'm the tall bastard in grey. We'll mull it over Wed/Thurs, whenever we link up. Quiet

Cynical? Never.

I'm sorry, this thread doesn't purport to answer "questions," but rather "quetions." Since your question is a question and not a quetion, I'm afraid I can't answer it. My aplologies for the confusion.
