I've been looking for a LARP/LRP grouop for about 2 weeks now. I stumbled across this page. I was wondering if there were any groups in or near the springs. I've heard of "Darkmoon" but they don't seem to have an active comunity page or anything of that sort. If someone knows when the next even or camp-out is, can you please inform me
At meetings do most people dress in Garb/costumes? What is usually provided?

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 00:20Hey, I'm the current PM of DM, you won't need garb or weapons at first. We've got a hefty supply of loaner gear so you can at least get a try out of what everything is about.
However, it is generally preferred (and is better for you) to acquire your own gear in the ensuing weeks.
... However if you do already have that stuff... please come out with it...
As for the active community page part, it kinda really sucks. I've seen one or two people from my park post on here in the last month.
However, you can catch me on here pretty much all the time.

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 06:51Thanks for the info. I do have some basic garb and some pool noodle boffers, I know some organizations prefer the pipe insulation or the latex weapons (I know its most likely listed in the rule book, but I haven't gotten to the weapons section yet) Also are these games more like SCA with strict reenactment or more fantasy like SLARPO or SOLAR?
Thanks again, I have to work on my beater car on Saturday so I'll try to make it out to Palmer Park as soon as I can after that. I also would like to make sure that the "Come out with your gear" means in garb.Sholto Nightseer - lvl1 Scout

The thing with Amtgard is that it has the flexibility to have a nice roleplay aspect to it. If people really wanted... there could be very successful quests with fleshed out 3 dimensional characters what have you. However, if you just want to go out and fight some fools we have more than enough people who love to do that as well.
As for the style of our park... most of the people just want to go fight.
The "Come with your gear" means whatever you feel to bring with you. If your weapons fit the rules set in the rulebook, bring whatever you feel comfortable with.
As for the Garb... you won't be ostracized for not being garbed, however, PLEASE pretty please come garbed in some way, the more people we can get out there in garb the better.

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 15:15Well if I like the events in the park (fighting practice or what-have-you) Then I'll think about Rakis, I might even take from Wednsday off to hit it up early. My First SCA event was beltane (mother's day/fertility holiday)I enjoyed myself, but there wasn't near enough fiting for my taste. Usually if I can go gung-ho into a hobby such as this one it will stick.
And I just want to tripple check, if I were to come out with white skin and purple hair wearing elfe ears or green skin and orc tusks; I won't be out of the norm?Sholto Nightseer - lvl1 Scout

On a regular park day, you'd likely get some looks. *In general* most park days are garb, but not GARB, if you get me. Generally typical daily Amt-wear is a tunic, sluff coat, something like that, with your choice of pants (you'll see jean, but I personally hate that), comfy shoes to fight in. Boots won't get you stared at, a hat is pretty normal... and there are these strange people in DM who *do* run around with tails on... That said, you're certainly welcome to go all out all you want!
(I *think* the link is right, work has started blocking Photobucket so I can't check it.)
If there's a quest going on, you tend to sometimes see a bit of dressing up and monster garb, depending on who's running it and how much effort they put into it. A couple of Midreigns ago we had fairies, pixies and brownies running all over the campsite. At Rakis, you're liable to see anything.

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 18:45brownies? Isn't that a little racist (lol jk jk)
Well after reading through the classes I think I've decided on Either assassin or scout. Seeing as I would play scout right off teh bat, but I'd rather do it after I can get a short bow and some armor and the assassan seems fairly easy to play... and is most of the garb I have currently.
Also I think I would have to remake the weapons I currntly have, but I would be glad to bring them to the park for inspection.
The link worked but there was only 2 pictures.Sholto Nightseer - lvl1 Scout

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 19:29Yeah, Specifically on a power level... Scout is the way to go. And... I would love to see more Scouts out on the field. I think we have one active scout currently. And... I haven't seen her out on the field in the past two/three weeks.
BTW, in the link there is a little white box off to your left with titles like "IMD, Guards, Dragonmaster, Weaponmaster" Right there is where you'll find more pictures.

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 21:38I guess I could start on scout, I don't see why more people don't use it, there's more of an option for weapons and they seem to have decent abilities. I did see that the assassin was a little under-powered but it also seemed to be one of the easier ones to pick up.Sholto Nightseer - lvl1 Scout

Re:N00b in the springs - 2008/05/29 23:57So a couple quick garb/armor questions.
I'd like to get some leather armor, but right now I'm looking at about $700 for a full getup. I was wondering:
A) Is there any place that has cheaper armor or better selection? 2) Seeing as how a scout has 3 points of armor is that 3 points for my arms, chest, legs, and any other place I have armor or is it I get hit 3 times anywhere with a 1 damage sword and my armor is bust?
Oh and I never heard about the use of latex swords, yay or ney?Sholto Nightseer - lvl1 Scout
