imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/08 00:09Nihao y’all,
First, thanks to rafike for fixing his worshipfulness’s internet late Saturday night. Apparently, Our wireless antenna was a failure in its life and had to be put down and replaced. It will not be missed.
Anyway, this weekend kicked the giant, hairy, midreign ass all over the place. People climbed out of the woodwork to come play on IMD’s field, and stayed for the food and actual entertainment brought in by azrael. Somebody told me talisin took a bunch of pics and put ‘em online somewhere around here, but I have yet to go looking for them.
Man, having people there from all over the core was thrilling as hell, people from NH, IMD, DM and CD met on the field of battle for ditching, some ring the bell, and an honest to god IMD battlegame. I know! I didn’t think we IMD’ers could do it either, but it was very impressive as the forces of liu bei and cao cao clashed and tried to survive the terrible onslaught of the mighty lu bu.
CD, in particular came up with like a billion and two people. Thanks guys, that is both awesome and exactly right. And watching farlore heat up when them dancers wiggled on up near him was worth the price of admission. That sh!t was funny. Thanks to all of you (including the aforementioned farlore, lil’ bird, nicodemas [sp?], lust [sp?], kayro [sp?], Bartholomew [sp?], Axissia [sp?], that one dude in the black shirt whose name I can’t remember [don’t really need “sp?” on this one but it suddenly seemed out of place not to type it], and more people whom I didn’t know)
Lathara, cloud (I guess his name’s leon, now isn’t it?), sanjay and their friend (who’s name I cannot remember either) went all out with, like, asian style lantern decorations and Chinese costumes as did casca and kord.
Because of this, it’s a definite toss-up between IMD and CD for that whole cheap ten-buck (“who is better at satisfying the emperor’s theme”) rakis thing, so far. ‘course, other groups could easily impress me, too, the game ain’t over, and a ten dollar rakis fee is nothin’ to hock up a big ol’ loogie at.
A huge drippy platter of thanks to azrael for organizing the food and dancers. That was a really badass thing you did for Us. A sixth rose really isn’t thanks enough, but it’s the best I got.
This weekend we are in DM, just for the heck of it, and here in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be taking the two 8 ft. towers (of the IM castle) to the NH for another theme game.
You should try to make all of these days if you can.
plus, get with rafike by the end of the week if you want van space to salt wars.

And I got a couple of things I’m seeing:
So I get the following in my forum PM inbox:
Hello from Falcon Tor
Dear Emperor Zumat,
Let me begin by introducing myself. I am Sir Rammork from the Freehold Shire of Falcon Tor in Columbia Missouri. Now I know you are wondering just what the heck this guy wants. First let me say that this past weekend our shire made a visit to your new principality of Rivermoor during their coronation. We had a wonderful time. Our close friends of Centerpoint (Kansas City) introduced us to them. After careful discussion amongst the 32 members of our park we have decided that we wanted to become part of this new principality. Our petition will be heading to Princess Savaen this Friday. After speaking to Princess Savaen she encouraged us to submit a petition but she stated she could not commit on the chances of our petition until we had sent it in. I just wanted to give you a heads up considering the post I have read concerning new parks. Now you are wondering why we are not part of the push of Western Gate. We have visited Western gate several times and have found that we do not fit well with Western Gate. Our temperment and philosophy and even the types of Amtgard games we like to play match more closely with the members of Rivermoor. Western Gate has not made it a priority in supporting us. I understand that you have a concern about supporting a park at a distance, and we are 4 hours and 26 minutes from Omaha about 317 miles. But I hope you will consider that a better fit is more important than the distance from one park to another. Thank You very much in taking the time to hear me out.
*sigh*, now I appreciate this guy’s sentiment, in the same way I understood MotD (more on them in a sec). and just like with MotD, I disagree with this dude. The single determining factor as to what kingdom you are (or will be) in is geography. Nothing more. Mapquest says these guys are 125 or so miles from st. louis (WG), and that would be well within the core of their future kingdom. I, personally, will not support groups who reject their closest neighbors, for whatever reason. Have you learned nothing from the collapse of the PRP? Principality groups that are too big don’t work.
I would like to get savaen’s thoughts on this, but my answer is no.
As I have said several times: here’s your forum. Do you core IM’ers have any thoughts?
Also, the vote to make the Olympus principality has been called. Ballots are due in two weeks from Saturday. Vote, or I will personally strap you to a chair, glue your eyelids open, and force you to watch “everybody loves Raymond” for 56 consecutive hours… without bathroom breaks.
And that brings us to mists:
Now, I’m sure I’m one of histories greatest villains right now, ranking up there with notables such as Hitler, cao cao, joel schumacher, and that guy who produces “everybody loves Raymond” (at least, in the world of Midwest livejournals), but I have a job to do. A job I (foolishly) take as seriously as I am able. And with the exception of a secondhand account of a report on someone’s livejournal, I’ve heard nothing about mists’ decision to join olympus’s principality or withdraw from the IM and become a freehold or whatever. A task which my job dictated I have them carry out in a timely manner. As we have not heard from them, it falls to us to make that decision. So I’ve called the vote to drop MotD from our kingdom. Our new pm talisin is putting the ballot together, and it is due at the same time as the Olympus vote. So vote your conscience. Ask yourself, what is best for amtgard? Is amtgard really well-served by a contrary park smack in the middle of a burgeoning kingdom? Can we please, please hurt Raymond really, really bad for subjecting us to years of a horrible show? (god, I hate Raymond, today)
I’m gonna go rub one out with sandpaper, as I’d rather be doing that than doing politics.
Lao z again.

i suggest we solve all three issues at hand with the same thing:
MotD: Boot To The Head. Proposed Shire: Boot To The Head Raymond: Boot To The Head

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/08 18:07I want to thank everyone who came out to play and those of you who stayed for the feast, I hope that everyone had a good time and enjoyed your selves. Thank you Tal for shooting video footage of the dancers, the photos were great but don't do justice to the ladies dancing. For those of you who did or couldn’t make it I am sorry you missed out it was a good time. most of the work was Azraels idea. poor guy couldnt sit down, he was so excited about the event. the out fits were Latharas idea. oh and the drppy platter, yeah, that ended up in the back of Az's car. a lot of the juice from the food spilled out into the back seat during transport.

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/21 16:46I've had a lot of contact with Falcon Tor, and while I can't speak for them, I'd be more than willing to share my experiences with them with the IM Core.
I'll be blunt to start off - FT has been plagued with nothing but really bad luck since last fall. They got ousted from their city parks by their local park service on a technicality, all because one of the rangers thought they were weird.
So, maybe rather than dismiss them outright, talk to them, or at least talk to me so an informed decision can be made. Seriously, those guys need some kind of break.

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/21 21:30Talking to them won't change the fact that when Western Gate makes it to kingdom, FT will be within their "core" area. It doesn't make sense for the IM to sponsor a group that will eventually be on the doorstep of another kingdom. It sucks that they've had such a rough time, but that doesn't change that, in the long term, this would not be a beneficial arrangement to the IM, the principality of RM, or to FT. That would be just prolonging their bad luck. Now, I don't get a say in accepting their petition, that is up to the monarch and PM of the principality of Rivermoor and the monarch and PM of the IM, so this is just my thoughts on the matter.Casca Eruoy

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/21 22:17Ok, fair enough, that wouldn't be a great situation. But that's about 2-3 years down the road. WG won't even get a vote until clan '09.
I'm only trying to advocate some communication here. It can only be healthy for the game, for the IM, and for Tor.
Here's why: 1) Talking is free, so nobody loses anything 2) Open, honest discussion leaves a smaller chance of hard feelings. Simply ignoring people is what led to the BL being a subject of derision and hatred for many people. 3)As an older, better established group, perhaps the IM can advise these people on a course of action. 4)Since they ARE on WG's doorstep, maybe there's a reason they are petitioning the IM. Perhaps this is indicative of them, or maybe of WG. It's a good chance for the IM to learn something about the area for the 2009 Clan vote.
My 2cents anyways

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/22 01:21I agree with Ten, I wish someone would take the time to discuss this matter with us. To not simply dismiss our group like we do not know what we are doing. We spent months researching and talking amongst our people on who we thought we would work better with. We took trips to Rivermoor and are planning another one for Spring Trails. If it is truly a matter of distance then we have shown we will travel.

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/22 02:12this, right here is your discussion. i do everything with the knowledge of the populace.
i didn't dismiss your group because i think you don't know what you are doing, i said no because when WG becomes a kingdom you will be in its core. i get that this is probably years down the road, but lets deal with it now, because if you don't the exact same issue will pop up when it's time for them to be a kingdom. this is what we could not get MotD to understand. that's also the residual reason that casca posted the way she did. you are within another kingdom's core radius. that's it. that's the whole issue. i'll be the first to admit that i don't get the corpora all that well, but if this decision is in any way up to me, my answer is no. we won't have a group inside another kingdom's borders, no matter how cool or lame or whatever that group is. did you miss the fact that we just shut a group out of our kingdom while they are within a principality we are sponsoring because they refuse to acknowledge the geography of a FUTURE kingdom. there's like a 17 page thread about it. i appreciate that you are willing to travel, that's good for you, but that's only a small part of the issue. your best bet is to jump into WG with both feet and try and help guide the principality to be like the kingdom you'd want to be part of. 'course, if it's really that unacceptable you could move your park 75 miles or so west. zumat

Re:imperial weekend report... the reportening - 2008/04/22 02:48Here's why: 1) Talking is free, so nobody loses anything We are talking, no one is saying that you may not make your case, we are simply saying that you should not get your hopes up as you have a very high burden to cross before you win anyone over. This is not because of anything you have done, We are honored that you want to be a part of the IM/Rivermoore. 2) Open, honest discussion leaves a smaller chance of hard feelings. Simply ignoring people is what led to the BL being a subject of derision and hatred for many people. Many emperors would not have posted the request for the public to see, I think Z is trying to be just that.
3)As an older, better established group, perhaps the IM can advise these people on a course of action. I think the IM is trying to advise you on the correct action. Now if you are asking for mentorship, i.e. people to ask questions to, bounce ideas off of and give insight to you the IM populace will be more then happy to assist you. I know I would be more than happy to talk with you at length about what can be done in your situation. But the IM as a whole is very reluctant pull in parks in core areas of current or future kingdoms. I would be more then happy to talk with anyone on what I see the reasons are. 4)Since they ARE on WG's doorstep, maybe there's a reason they are petitioning the IM. Perhaps this is indicative of them, or maybe of WG. It's a good chance for the IM to learn something about the area for the 2009 Clan vote. We are listening, do not take our unwillingness to bring a park into the IM with us being unwilling to work with you for a solution.
