Re:imperial weekend report: now with 300% bonus content - 2008/03/20 14:06Heya Just so It's Clear
Jalea (Prince at the time) and Myself (PM at the time) agreed to include Mists of the Dawn into the PRP. I asked them to try and open some lines of communication with Starmount prior to them joining to see if there could be a possibility of merger before I would vote yes or at the very least show that even if they couldn't agree they could work together as both being members of the same principality.
I applaud both groups for sitting down and talking with one another even though then they were not able to resolve their differences. They did everything that I had asked to prove that they were at least willing to try to work together and so I had no problem casting my Yes vote.
His Majesty Takazue (sp) was in office at the time with Khord as PM and I can tell you they were both very WELL aware of what was going on through out the entire process as there was a question of the wether or not I could have asked Mists to do that prior to me voting to allow them in.
So that’s what happened. It was a little hinky and different but that’s the deal. Nothing was done un-correctly and the IM indeed unless I am mistaken had the opportunity to veto if they felt it was right to do so. Mists should NOT be accused of any of this. They complied with my request and tried. I wished that perhaps things would have progressed from there then there it is.
I truly and completely hope that the folks from Mists, OL, SM, and DS can all come together on this and form this kingdom around our area. No one is out to control the other in fact we want every park that is or could be affected by the kingdom in the area to get in on the ground floor so that their interests are addressed.
I was told once something that I feel holds allot of relevance in this particular topic and I urge the folks at Mists to please consider this. There was a time in my amt career where I was struggling with dealing with several of the Knights in my kingdom. I was serving as king at the time and was put into a difficult position to having to represent the people whom had elected me and deliver a message to the knights of the kingdom that change in behavior was needed.
Things were said and during the exchanges I stated that in the condition that the current Knight circle was in that I would not take a knighthood even if offered. Later that evening a knight who was not a close friend came up to me and questioned me about what I said.
He told me Micah, as bad as things are or are perceived to be how can you expect to truly be able to change a thing if you are not willing to be a part of it? This question rocked home and I saw the truth in what he had said. Until I took up that challenge and had walked in their shoes how much harder would it be for me to effect a change in them? The answer was impossible.
It is easy to look in from the outside and find problems and faults with someone or something. The challenge is, are you willing to get in there and get your hands dirty to effect a change that is good for everyone?
A vote is a vote is a vote. If you want to change something then campaign it, present good and valid arguments to promote and prove it, and then fight for it. No one is able to control a park as an individual the park is able to choose its own destiny.
There are controversies in amtgard kingdoms all the time and to think that they would or will never happen down the road is a mistake. We CAN work together, we all CAN make an excellent kingdom for Amtgard here in the Midwest, and we all want Mists to be a co-contributor in it.
Lastly... what’s the harm in trying? While I would hope people would be energetic and excited about getting this together it can spread. If you get in there and get involved in a corpora committee and put in bids for events or even run for office then the excitement will come b/c you will find that you can and will be involved. So what's the harm in trying? If Mists doesn't like it then you can always drop out, but I know if you honestly try you will love it.
Sorry for the long post and I hope that all of you on every side of the fence that we are trying to rip down got through it all. No one is out to control or rule over the other we are trying to build something together and together we can!Micah Rogers Raiders To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act. -Anatole France

Re:imperial weekend report: now with 300% bonus content - 2008/03/20 14:16Well, Micah beat me to it, but here is the response I composed but couldn't post because the session had timed-out:
As much as I would love for this discussion regarding Mists admission into the PRP end (and I'm guessing at least another 95% of those even reading this thread agree with me on that point), I think I can offer a unique perspective into the matter. As Jalea's wife, I have some information that other outsiders aren't privvy to.
1 - Everyone must realize that there were 4 main players that had to agree on whether or not to let Mists (or any other group) into the PRP and that it was never solely Jalea's decision. These people were Jalea (as Prince), Micah (as PRP PM), Takezu (as Emperor), and Kord (as Imperial PM).
2 - Kord sent an e-mail to Jalea stating that he was against allowing Mists into the PRP. How much Kord discussed this with Takezu is anyone's guess. What this does show is that at least one of Imperial officers that had the veto power was informed of the possibility that another group would be joining the PRP.
3 - Since both Jalea and Micah did agree to bring Mists into the PRP despite Kord's opinion to the contrary, both can be accused of being "underhanded", "naive", or "playing chicken" (depending on your view point).
4 - Kord and/or Takezu would have been well within their rights as the Imperial officers to veto this decision especially considering that at least Kord was against it in the first place.
I'm now going to go into Polyanna-land and say that all 4 people simply did what they felt was best for everyone involved. I also believe that this demonstrates that the people of Mists, themselves, cannot be held accountable or accused of wrong-doing concerning their admission into the IM. Like any other park petitioning to join a kingdom/principality, they had no power or control over whether or not they would be accepted.
Hmm - Since Micah and I are actually agreeing on something, does this mean that the Cubs are going to win the World Series?

Re:imperial weekend report: now with 300% bonus content - 2008/03/20 18:04Ok allow me to help put this into my perspective, There were two main reasons I was thinking about vetoing MOTD joining the PRP. (Kord may have had other reasons) 1. The PRP was getting much too large, ideas where being tossed around about how to solve the issue to the northern expansion. MOTD joining was adding one more piece to an already very complex puzzle. 2. The schism between SM and MOTD . For the past few reigns before mine and the two after the IM leadership was becoming more and more concerned about how quickly the PRP was gaining parks farther and farther from the core group. I wanted to start to reign in that expansion so we could readdress how we would handle the PRP that had gotten MUCH larger geographically then we wanted. MOTD regrettably was stuck in the middle of the PRP wanting to grow more and the IM core trying to reign back new parks. There was also the idea of splitting up the PRP starting to be formed and looked like it would happen. I also really struggled with the schism between SM and MOTD, While I understand MOTD’s history better now, (and I still need to spend some time with SM to fully hear their side) I can say that I was ill informed to make the best decision. Distance between the parks, who founded the parks, Why the two parks where founded, Where the SM and MOTD members came from and where they started where all very very mucky. Did I do the best job finding out the truth, No I failed and I will offer no excuses as to why it happened. I did try to make the best choices I could. But regardless two parks closely together that have bad blood between them is bad. Who was right and who was wrong didn’t matter much to me, There was a problem and I wasn’t sure that bringing them into the PRP and IM core was the best solution. It causes many more problems down the road.
Between these two issues, I had to make a choice. Stick to my guns veto the new park and ask the PRP to not expand any further until we could figure out a better way to manage the principality. Then try explain to MOTD that the timing was just not right and there where complications, both with SM and many more that they could not see at their local level. Hope that this would not offend the group and make them feel unwanted and cause a greater rift. Or Let MOTD into in to a principality that I figured would be short lived at that point. Then ask them to change flags to another principality, That consists of people they may not like due to the rift between SM and the trouble they had with Micah getting into the PRP. Worse yet that new principality may not include there good friends at NH. Kord and I did discuss MOTD being brought into the group over emails and for several hours face to face while cleaning cabins at the rakis site, I talked with many of my mentors, and the two people running for emperor to try to come up with solution and strategy that would be the best for amtgard. Kord and I had slightly different opinions on if MOTD should be in its own park or merge with another. But the fact that MOTD was so gung ho about being a part of the PRP, and I figured with time the schism between SM and MOTD would heal. I decided to let MOTD in the PRP. To me it was a shitty choice; I was dammed one way or the other. But that’s the office, that’s the trust I was given the IM. I stand by my choice. It pains me very personally that my choice has caused this trouble, and while I can not change it I am always open to what I could have done differently.

Re:imperial weekend report: now with 300% bonus content - 2008/03/26 06:24Just so everyone knows, Zumat and I had a long talk about the Mist situation. We couldnt come up with a definate decision but I did tell him I would do what I can to help. My park has unanimously voted to support Mists in whatever they do decide. But Zumat and I agreed that the Mists/SM situation needs to be resolved.
I had to tell Zumat that I believe he should let Mists go. If they want to leave IM and become a freehold or join another kingdom he should. They are not ready to work with Starmount. Give it some more time. It could take years but eventually the situation will be resolved. I am willing to put the miles in (along with several members of my park and Northhaven) to do what I can to help.
I am much closer physically to both parks (I believe the closest Dutchy) and closer personaly to Mists.

a vote to see if you should vote on something. thats AWESOME.
reminds me of working at HP when we'd have meetings to discuss what should be discussed at the next meeting. then we'd have a meeting to review what was discussed at the previous meetings. sometimes we'd have meetings to schedule other meetings. nothing ever got accomplished.

That is a completely unfair statement. Seeing as though everyone else is allowed to schizm off on rants that are not even remotely related to the conversation, Rewth should be able to do so too. So please share your thoughts with the whole class, nothing you say could possibly derail this thread anymore than it already has.
And whilst I am on that note. I think a disclaimer needs to be posted at the beginning of this thread, denoting that the alleged 300% bonus content is mostly hot air. -Back from the Dead with a Vengeance- With dead meaning work and vengeance meaning boredom
