In the future once your noodle breaks down,
camp pad never goes out of season (buy a camp pad roll at walmart, it's a roll of blue foam that you put under your sleeping bag when you go camping.)
using camp pad we use what is called a "rolled foam" technique because the pad is flat, not like noodle where we can put a hole through it or buy a pre holed noodle and wallah.
here's an example on the right for a sword build, we can do the same for a polearm.

we need 1 polearm core 1 can of spray adhesive 1 roll of camp pad 1 pair of scissors 1 knife 1 roll of duct tape 1 roll of clear packing tape 1 piece of string or a flexible measuring tape
take your camp pad and cut a 1 & 1/2 inch wide long strip, cut down the whole length of the camp pad roll (we want this as long as possible)
tape one end of the strip to your polearm core at the tip of your intended blade, and then spiral your strip of camp pad down the polearm core, keep edge to edge on this wrap, we don't want any gaps this serves two purposes, with the camp pad directly on the core, this gives more cushion between the core and the outer foam that will be the striking surface, and, this spiral wrap helps give us a layer of thickness that brings our blade closer to the legal diameter for melee weapons (2.5 inches diameter for round blades)
ok, so now that you've done your wrap, take a 3 inch long piece of duct tape and cut it into 2 pieces (cut long ways, so we have to thin pieces 3 inches long) take one of these strips and tape it around the core as close to the bottom of the spiral of camp pad that you can get.
now, unspiral the camp pad and take it off the core where you taped it at the top (don't take the tape off the camp pad, take the tape off the core, if you pull the tape off the camp pad it will take off a layer of foam and weaken the camp pad in that spot)
take your spray glue, with a thin but even coat, spray the length of the core with the spray glue from the duct tape marker we made to the top of the core, do this outside, and find a way to let the core dry where it's not touching anything with the glue portion.
now take your rolled foam strip that we used to spiral wrap the core and lay it out flat, spray one side of this strip
let both the core and the foam have a chance to dry, spray glue activates after about 3 to 5 minutes, it will become 'tacky' so after about 5 minutes ( it's always best to wait a little on the longer side, try 6 minutes wait time ) so, now that the spray glue is tacky, begin to attach the spiral wrap, again start from the top of the core, put the piece of tape on the core, and begin wrapping the spiral, make sure you don't have any gaps. take the second little strip of duct tape that we have left over from before and wrap it around the bottom of the spiral wrap to secure it in place and keep it from unwrapping.

now let this sit awhile.. go watch some tv or something.
then
we measure around the width of the spiral wrapped core, use your string or flexible measuring tape, then cut a piece of camp pad that is that width, and you want the length to match the length of the blade I would add about a half inch of extra length on the blade to extend past the core, that way you can recess a piece of play mat circle inside the camp pad on the tip, you can also cut a piece of camp pad circle to fit inside there, but it won't last as long on stabs,

sew a nice durable cloth to make a cover, add some extra padding on the tip ( 3 or 4 camp pad circles should do it well, make sure to securely tape these on.
see the imu video on sword building for some extra info, some of it applies here too.
