Nifty Spell Balls - 2007/08/07 00:41
I've come up with a way to crochet spell balls for those of you who enjoy the yarny arts:
Use size H hook and worsted weight yarn. Work in rounds (do not turn). 1. Ch 4; join with sl st to form ring. 2. Ch 1, 8 SC in ring; sl st to join. (8 st) 3. Ch 1, 2 SC in each SC (16 st) 4. Ch 2, *2 DC in first stitch, 1 DC in next stitch* to last stitch; sl st to join (24 st) 5. Work even in DC for 2 or 3 rounds depending on desired size. (24 st) 6. Work even in SC for one round (24 st) 7. Ch 1, *sc, sc2tog* to last stitch, sl st to join 8. Ch 1, sc2tog all the way around, sl st to join 9. Tie off, leaving an 8" tail. 10. Flip the ball inside out (optional, but I always think this side looks nicer). 11. Stuff with denim scraps. 12. Using one of those big needles, lace the tail through the edges, tighten, and tie off. 13. Add fringe. 14. Pelt thine enemies.
I hope this is clear; I've never written a pattern before.
