Cedrac, what would be the perfect Rakis class game?

Newbies like magic....so it has to include magic. One idea I've always had was a full class battlegame that toned down the magic into a more militia style game. Get rid of verbals, only use spellballs. Maybe magic can't be over 3rd. Scrub out a lot of the really confusing other abilities.

Maybe a quest-type battle game like having all the RPers try and kill a dragon. Something large and epic.

Other things that I like are mini-games sort of like when we did orcball. I could also see something like a 10 v 10 tourney where groups sort of competed against each other.

Evening fun for the ditch monkeys. I'm not sure what it is yet, but is there a game that can be done in a poorly lit ditch field? In the quest (old larp I used to do back in hawaii) we used to do chaos wars. Make a bunch of pvp weapons that are wrapped with a foot of couch foam. It's like a pillow on a stick. Make a ring and allow people to fight in it. You don't quite need the light because you aren't worried about people getting hit in the eye as much (the weaposn are 2' wide).

Tavern brawls. The one that Axgar did was so much fun. I know the tigers made a ton of weapons and had a blast.

Those are all the types of activities that I'd like to see included. Above all else though, I think ditch lights need to be fixed. Even if it means running out to Home depot on Wednesday to buy a few more sets.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/29 21:32 We did run out to Home Depot to buy a few more sets. Unfortunately, one of the sets disappeared before we were able to set it up (incidentally, it was found again... AFTER the event), and so we ended up only having the two lighting rigs available. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication, we were unable to procure Mikey's lights prior to the event as had originally been planned. Kord

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/30 02:19 Since the biggest class battle I participated in had only 100 participants, I understand the issue with calling verbals. You can't get upset at someone who calls an FoD at someone who can't hear you from the middle of the largest skirmish on the field. As a spellcaster, you can better serve in other methods by saving verbals for close encounters (Hold/Wounding on the run), dropping enchantments on your fellow teammates, or chuckin spellballs at people.

Magic is easy to sluff in very large games, and most spellcasters SHOULD understand that. It shouldn't be this way, but there are some things that you really cannot help. I honestly would have ran the large class game, and made sure people knew what they were getting into.

Maybe having something new, like running a tournament around the Battle Chess game out of the Celestial Codex Book. Granted it may be more difficult to put together 16-Person teams, but I think it would be too much trouble. I know when I ran this game for the folks in Olympus, they loved it so much they ended up playing through a hellacious downpour!

You could also change the objective of the class game too. For example, maybe the goal isn't to smash the opposing side, but to subdue and take certain or the most individuals prisoner. Perhaps the local peasants are making an armory raid in which one side gets a certain allotment of weapons, and the goal is to recapture weapons from the local keep's armory. I guess it all depends on what sort of theme you are running as well.

Well...thats my 2 cents...I hope it helps...

Re:What did you like? - 2007/07/04 03:26 I'd love to see a full magic quest style game at Rakis (ah the RP is still in me), but the site is not very condusive to it. Unless people would be willing to walk up and down the hill you wouldn't get much action.

You could set it up in a modular fashion and have set encounters at various locations. Only 1 team can be in the encounter at a time. Team with the most treasure/lives left/fastest time/etc. across all the encounters wins.

Just some thoughts.

Love Rakis, I'll be back next year.
