What did you like? - 2007/06/26 06:00 So, Rakis is over for another year. What did you like? What would you like to see changed? Big, little, post it here! Superstar, do you think you're what they say you are?

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/26 13:07 I know it would be a pain, but having a herald to announce when things were about to start would be nice. As spread out as the camping is from the fighting areas, and with AST impacting things, it would be nice to not have to walk down and sit for long periods of time, or to miss something all together because the time got changed.

It is a minor thing and in general Rakis was a very well run event.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/26 14:54 I want Forest there. he always makes a good Rakis
I liked that there wasn't a huge frustrating class battle game
I liked that there was tons of event pimping well before the event
I liked the rakis bucks, they were great fire starter after our kindling got wet.
I didn't miss karaoke as much as I thought I would, but I'm not much of a singer, however karaoke did give a central party spot, I think Rakis needs that central party thing, especially with so much spread from cabins to the top of the hill

I liked gate, everything to do with gate this year went awesome, they had tv and guitar hero and amtcards looked like it made things easy, at least the barcode thing looked really good to help keep numbers straight.
I didn't do any gate this year, but this stuff made me want to if I hadn't already promised myself not to do gate this year.
prepay option is cool
cabin auctions are cool
having a website with schedule and outline of meals provided is good, like Forest mentioned, an announcer person is good to have.
shuttle is a must, parking at campsites is a must.

having showers limited to only a certain time of day is lame.
giant hill is lame.
paying $25.00 regardless of day trip or single day & what not is lame.
hopefully the site gives a good deal next year, if they don't I say it's time to find a new site.
no cool fundraising, no pie in the face, nada, that is lame.
court was stifling and difficult for folks to hear, but court was pretty short considering what all was covered, so maybe suffering leads to efficiency?

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/26 22:28 Overall an awesome event, every thing was ran fairly well compared to other Rakis's. Court inside sucked hard to hear and hard to move around. No fundraising stuff in hardly a good idea, a central party spot would be a great idea. The amtmoney was fairly pointless except to make a fire (very good point Grendel), even the questors had very limited use of that money. Make sure that both lights work for the ditch field, that would of made matters of four am ditching a little better.....

Overall great event, good job Kord......

it's not that the amt dollars were useless, I sold Quiet's cigarettes for a 20 spot. there just didn't seem to be a point to them, of course I wasn't all up in the RP tavern searching for options,
you choose your own level of involvement as they say.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/27 19:37 The Amt Dollars were specifically for use in the roleplaying scenarios; people could spend them to buy one-use enchantments, heals, etc. Other than that, however, they were about as useless as the Anvils are every year.

As for the lights... There was a little bit of a miscommunication about procuring the lights, and thus we had to scramble for lighting at the last minute. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped.

Anyway, I'm glad people had fun at the event. Things did end up running relatively smoothly, which I was quite happy with. There were a few problem areas, but most of them were minor, and hopefully we'll make sure those areas are not too much of a problem next time around.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/27 21:45 oh yeah,

get patient people that are running the different things, or give them breaks so they aren't on 'kill mode' all the time.

I remember how nice it was when Kord asked me after my shower had stripped me of my green bracelet "hey man, make sure you go grab a new wristband at the gate when you head up, cool?"
I also remember when folks weren't as calm and treated people like shit inappropriately

But Zumat said I could!

I agree with Grendel. Some people are great at helping out and getting things done, but their disposition with other players when they are "in charge" leaves a lot to be desired. (Not that I had any issues at Rakis, just observing in general)

I also think that all players need to help remind each other of such rules (wearing the colored braceletes) when they see others not wearing them.

Thanks again for a great event.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/28 19:27 And here I am of the opinion that people needed to be more hardassed on folks who are breaking rules. Then again, I also think that if those people who were making the illicit fires and who were dropping cigarette butts everywhere ended up getting 2nd degree sunburns because they spent hours in the sun cleaning up those messes and then pay the fines to the site out of their own pockets, then they wouldn't be so massively inconsiderate in the future. Then again, I get bitter when people act without common courtesy and common sense... and when my back is peeling.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/28 23:41 Day ditching was great this year.

Nightime ditching like it was already said was bad.

Unlike grendal, I missed the lack of fighting events this year. I'd like to see something more balanced between ditching and class battlegames.

I know you asked Ced. But I wanted to add in some voice from the Midwest. I've had numerous people chat about that "point and click" spells work hardly at all at large battles. You practically need a reeve next to you to make sure they take it. I think class battles at rakis with only magic that can be designated by farbic of color work best.

I believe the Dread Knight Undead Tavern Seige battle worked well and was one of the highlights of Rakis 2006!

I understand with more jugging teams jugging can take longer. But some people felt one last big Class or Militia battle on saturday to get everyone involved would have been great (i suggest class battle**with suggestions as above**) Stick and flurb alike! You line up your reeves a few days ahead for this and it should run ok.

Have the jugging announced well in advance by heralds. Maybe jugging at 11. Then hopefully by 1 or 2pm rolls around you can get the class battle going.

But yeah don't know what it was this year. But Night ditching wasn't there. *shrug*

The 2 militia capture the flag battles rocked this year! Wish more were involved though.

Re:What did you like? - 2007/06/29 20:31 Liked:

*Event ran smoothly, for the time I was there saw no hiccups at all (Great job event staff)
*Gate was fairly painless to go through. 1st event in 10 years I haven't done a shift at gate. (was quite weird)
*Good folks, food, and fun
*Shuttle service
*Feasts were always tasty
*Wolves feeding me when feasts weren't available (I love my company)
*Being close enough to home to sleep in my own bed every night
*bardic Friday night
*Everlast & Rewth's knightings
*Jugging on Saturday so I could watch it for the first time in 3 years
*Parking at the campsites
*getting my Amtcard

Disliked:
*Being I was only there for less than 24 hours spending $25 for gate fee
*Walking up the hills when too impatient to wait for a ride
*Not being able to hear everything in the back seats of court
*Being pregnant so I couldn't fight in the ditch battles
*The whining of some concerning the flurbiness of others (I like flurbiness makes the game amusing)

Hated: (premise this with Thanks to the event staff for a great event and sorry for the fools out there that caused issues for you post event)
*Reading on the forums afterwards that event staff had to fix the site because some people cannot follow rules. (Fire pits, cigerette butts, ect) Because the thought of people not having the consideration to follow basic rules because they are too lazy just annoys me to know end.

So all in all a great event.
