Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 00:04 Alright, I have decided that i wish to hydra at my Shire's Crown Quals. But i have run into a problem. The IM Copora only goes down to Baronial CQ. It doesn't list the requirements for Shire because Shire's aren't required to Hydra at CQ.

So, could you help me with this? What are the req's for a Shire to Hydra?

Thank you for your time and helpful input!

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 09:10 Hey Rewth, qualifing as a Baronry and a Duchy are the same.

Did anyone give this guy a Corpora test?

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 09:25 Corpora...what's a corpora?

and there's a test over it?

Yikes...I get test anxiety...do I get an exception?

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 11:13 There is no standard for Hydra at the shire level specifically because there is no requirment to qualify if you are running for Sheriff of a shire. We want to make the barriers to success at the shire level as low as possible since often shires are made up of all new players with little or no Amtgard experience. Your sheriff could choose to award you a hydra (up to your third) for qualifying as per the barony standards or for some other standard of his discretion.

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 11:55 Well, I already plan on doing enough to for a BCQ... but i was still wondering what the exact number for a shire would be. Just so my Sheriff can know.

Also, I am the GMR of Gehenna Plains... how can i take the Reeve Test and Copora test? Should i run down to Omaha (Querna Tema) and take their GMR's personal Tests before CQ? Or since i haven't recieved the 7.0 and Rev. 18 tests... just have my PM get them for me so i can't accidently look them over before hand?

And i know that at Shire level one doesn't HAVE to hydra... but I want to.

Thank you for your time and helpful input!

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 14:05 If you really want to hydra, you could always come down and participate in our Quals. We normally have two or three that hydra that aren't running for office, just to keep up their skills (Nargle and Kyrill come to mind as shining examples). You then can take the tests we administer the day of while you're here. Just be prepared to bring the proper number of projects for a Duchy Quals (I think it's seven). Khanar Ekorn-Svarta

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/13 15:36 I'd think that the PM could give the tests to the GMR. Seems fair enough. In the end, you probably should have a fresh test, since you'll have seen the original?

And Daddy was saying that Rewth needs a test - since baronial and ducal qual requirements are the same. I can't remember - was it always that way?

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/14 10:06 My point was that the award hydra is different from the action of qualifying in crown quals that also qualifies you for a hydra. It is an award granted by a park leader for qualifying. I suppose a baron or duke could choose not to grant an Order of the Hydra to someone who qualified. I have never seen this but I guess it is possible. However, I know more than one or two people who have been accidentally missed for an Order of the Hydra. In these cases the person never does get the award even though they were qualified for it. Since there are no shire crown quals there is no official way to qualify. However since a Sheriff can still grant the award there is some discretion allowed. If I was the Sheriff in question I would make someone qualify as per a barony but it really is entirely up to that person.

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/14 10:57 i've qualed twice, and have zero hydras. in both cases there were simply no hydras given out during the reign. "But right now I'm a little concerned about my pants, since I don't know where they are." - Valathina Nailo

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/14 11:28 What we did in Olympus (back when we were a freehold), we encouraged people to participate in our Crown Quals to start out. Since we only had a few members, we enticed alot of people with a free credit if you put something into the A&S. That was our very first quals, our second one we did by the book except we had to do 3 A&S entries and fight in the tourney. After we decided to run by the IM corpora while we waited for word back on sponsorship, we ran 5 and fighting in the tourny. Since we figure we're close to baroney, we decided to start running things like a baroney without the benefits of being one, hence our last allthing we have voted to run our quals as a barony.

I figure it takes time for people to participate. Make sure to help out and encourage the others too!!

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/14 15:58 That's what Rivers End did back in the Day. As a Shire we passed an allthing vote to run quals as though we were a barony. And I think it really helped us get motivated to get to the next level. It encouraged our members to compete. Many of our first A&S tourneys everyone was dead set to beat me because I won them all, even the Dragon Masters when I was Sheriff. I wanted to raise the bar on our A&S as well as get more examples of Amt-tech on our field (it helped that I had a ton of time to work on stuff since I was unemployeed for a year).
I highly encourage your populace to participate by focusing on making A&S field legal items. It's one of the best ways to grow your park. Make neat new stuff and give away your old stuff to newbies!!!

Re:Hydra for Shires? - 2005/04/14 19:48 I'll bring it up as an Althing topic.

I'd really like to see Gehenna Plains grow and flurish! It has kinda been one of my goals since moving up here. And it has grown, in leaps and bounds, but it is still struggling. I hope that i'll be able to change that.
