Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/24 01:09 Haldo good folks!

I'm new (duh) and was planning to make some waxed leather armor for myself; the thing is, I don't have a clue how to do it. Also, for chest plates, do the guys' styles work fine for females, or is there some fancy technique to make everything fit?

Any help from anyone would just make my day.

Re:Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/24 01:43 guys styles will indeed work for some women... but it depends on your body type and even then it will help to modify it to fit you specifically. since armor patterns generally need to be customized for any indiviual its not to rough to tweak a pattern to allow for breasts, shorter torsos and wider/higher hips. given that amtgard has a large number of female fighters as well as men with "non-gladiator" body types, there's a decent amount of expertise around on the subject.

which park are you at? i happen to have in my possession a pattern for a suit of brig that was built by my knight (Airleas). depending on your body type it might fit you. on top ofthat i have a suit of brig that she made that you could try on and see what would need to change to make it comfortable for you personally.

Re:Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/24 01:56 Adding a dart under the bust, from the natural waist to the bust, is a nice thing to do for your larger breasted females. Any gal B-cup or under generally is okay with using guys' styles, though it does vary case by case. The rest Rewth's already covered: altered torso length and adjustments for wider and higher hips. Re:Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/24 03:04 Thanks a million to both of you!

I'm in Darkmoon (Palmer Park), so if you can make it out there, great. I won't be there tomorrow because of the long-anticipated blizzard, though.

Oh, as far as darts go on the chest plates, do you just sew 'em in or what?

Re:Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/24 04:32 That's what I've done and seen done in the past. But take care to make the result a soft curve and not a conical shape. One is actually comfortable and the other is the worst of Madonna.

...Well, not THE worst. The actual worst of Madonna is her cover of American Pie.

Not a lot of "instructions" so to speak but some great pics of legit female armour to work your own pattern off of.

Re:Leather armor for ladyfolk? - 2007/02/26 04:21 In regards to waxing/hardening, the type of leather you're using has a lot to do with whether it will work or not. Anything other than Veg tanned and it's not really going to work.
