Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/02/19 16:35 first day of amtgard & building your first sword classes complete, click the links above for the google videos

editing is taking place on building an amtgard sectional belt (leather), building an amtgard sword holder (for your belt), the mead class was recorded and will be going through editing (part 2 to follow in about 6 months or so when bottling takes place)

fellow IronMountaineers,
what other classes would you like to see online?

Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/02/19 20:03 Great job on the videos! Thank you for the effort, I am a big fan of what you are doing with making them available to all through the use of video media. A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Would personally like to see a video incorporating different types of chain weaves, leather thicknesses, plate, what counts as inauthentic material (and thus less points) etc. with an estimation of armor point value and the pros and cons of each so that those of us less informed can at least recognize a certain weave, leather gauge, etc. and give point values accordingly if we are in a position that requires us to do so. I think that would also be very helpful for people who are reading the R.O.P. and wondering what kind of armor they may wish to buy or make as it relates to the game rules.

Same thing with swords, pole-arms, flails, etc. Examples of legal vs. illegal. Grendel, I think these videos would be great for new people especially, right after the Intro. to Amtgard video. (I see that you have covered some of this in the Sword Building)

I can think of many more off the top of my head. I'll e-mail you, if that's o.k.

Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/02/19 22:11 Can I be in the mead credits as "peanut gallery"?
But, seriously, folks...
You could have professor do a professorial bit about how fermentation works, thus answering the essential question, "Is it okay to scratch my ass during the mead-making process?" He's our very own Bill Nye, but with a lot more swearing.

Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/02/20 00:43 Sindari,
thank you for the input/thoughts/suggestions, I believe we'll be re-recording the sword building class to stream line it a bit, and we can look into adding some more stuff on legality during that class, or maybe a class designated for legal weapons, your concerns will be addressed regarding armor & rating armor too, as well as how armor works in game, etc..

Nimue,

the Iron Mountains University is a growing flexible group, we welcome any assistance.

not to restrict folks to title or position, but basically right now the IMU Online includes instructors, editors, camera people and 'management' (I guess that's as close to a proper term that I can think of right now)

Takezu has headed up the IMU Online stuff, organizing, motivating, writing scripts/outlines, web stuff, video compression.
as well as teaching in front of the camera, his director abilities off camera help our instructors teach better, etc..
bringing the IMU from the field to the Online is his baby, without him I highly doubt we'd see an online IMU.

Cruz has done tons editing, as has Dan The Man and Rafeki has helped edit class videos as well, Cruz will be teaching a class on some basic chain maille soon. We've got some more classes being lined up with some other instructors too, if anyone is interested in teaching a class for the online feel free to let us know.
if one feels so inclined and comfortable teaching they are welcome to do so.

Dan is our camera expert & general pain in the ass (and edits film too)

Edan has been there for classes to break tables, provide support, and taught his first class for the Mead Class

Iron Mountains University, prior to the online stuff, basically covered classes at the park, or in a hosted home.

at NH 'stock events' -
Talisin taught a macrame & woven belt making class,
Tokumei taught a flowering tea class,
Rewth & Loyal did a class on bardic song singing, 'exploring your voice'
Obie & Cruz taught a chain maille class
Michael and Kain taught a performance class,
Lief taught a feast for 100 class

at Crimson Dawn -
Michael & Cullum taught a persona history class
Zumat & I taught a basics of fighting class

in the NH -
Takezu taught a leatherworking class
Obie taught a chain maille class
Riddick taught a sword building class
Edan's mead brewing class (which we also filmed)
Roo taught a field garb class

the plan from here is to continue to have classes for the IMU at the parks/'hosted house,' preferably to film those classes so we kill 2 birds with one foam barbarian boulder, and to continue to film classes for the Online IMU.

I suppose we could add you into the 'peanut gallery' - that's not as bad as say, 'podium cleanliness technician'

Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/04/03 04:41 I would love to see an arrow making class. I think this is an important enough issue to warrent a class from the IMU. Many of us in outlying parks do not have access to the most current tech on arrow making. We are left with the basics in the rulebook on arrow construction. While, yes, if the rulebook is followed you have a safe arrow, there are more advanced and safer techs out there. Also, an alternitive materials list would be a good thing as some of us do not have the easy access to materials that others do. If possible a list of links on where to get the materials used in the class should be included if they can be purchased online.

Re:Online Iron Mountains University - 2007/04/06 00:41 Kere, if you provide the shafts I'll run an arrow making class for you on the 21st before I leave the park, and I'll provide all the other materials. I've sent 2 boxes of materials for tips to your park (to date) and will do so again if more are needed.
