Magic Balls - 2006/10/31 04:17throughout the discriptions in the rulebook the Magic balls are listed " a *color* "ball" with streamers.
Question is, must all magic balls be spheres? can they be other shapes?
ie: can you make a noodle throwing dagger, but a red cover on it with streamers and then use it as your fireball?
I ask because I've gone through alot of hastle making rigs to hold my throwies and am now getting presured to start playing a caster. I'd like to make removable covers for my throwies that I can slip on and load up as normal.
That and I'm broke and can't go buy a bunch of the foam balls I used to have at the moment.

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/10/31 14:31unfortunately, the rules for projectiles state that magic balls "must follow the same safety rules as projectiles but must remain spherical" (page 6)
if your throwing daggers are spherical, then i see no problem with this (spherical throwiers are perfectly acceptable). but i'm fairly certain they are not."But right now I'm a little concerned about my pants, since I don't know where they are." - Valathina Nailo

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/10/31 16:05See, now that's why I keep you around Rewth. I've been looking for that line for 3 days! I knew it was in there but was searching the Magic section and glossary.
Guess I go redesign a new rig and make "Spherical" spell balls. I'm thinking of plagerizing(sp) Evant T.'s Wizard bag/sash/thingy.
Kewl, thanks for the heads up. That also gives me the line to quote to the Tooelel group.
I really wish they'd have included all the spell ball requirements in one spot. ie: spherical, 2.5 inches in diameter min, 12 in streamers, cloth covers, Max balls carried, max of each type, etc. Instead of spread out over the entire book in odd places.
It'd be much easier to explain to people that are learning the rules for the first time.

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/10/31 23:45No worries on the infringement. I have told many peeps to copy some sort of the design as I think it makes everything a bit easier to swap from one class to another between battlegames.
BTW, I can't wait to see how you make it. My was very spartan in its design....been toying of making an additional one but this time a bit more aesthetics will be in place.Evan Traginoire Far Far away in the land of Dragonspine

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/11/02 17:22I have to concur on putting all the magic ball info in one place. I made a lovely one with long, multi-colored streamers and got told it was a choking hazard. I then had to choke him with an 8 inch streamer just to prove a point.Nimue "Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks." (Robert Heinlein)

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/11/07 19:09It was Takuezu who said they were too long. It's the one with the long crocheted streamers. That's why my other one has hemp thongs instead. Heh heh. Re:Magic Balls - 2006/11/07 19:36Ommm, I kind of remember that, I was pulling your leg, Sorry I thought you knew that. I am very very sorry about the misunderstanding. To be clear the max length of a spell ball tail is 1 foot. And your spell ball is 100% legal.

Re:Magic Balls - 2006/11/08 17:33Takezu, you master of the deadpan humor. I guess you pulled my leg and it came off in your hand. The streamers are right around a foot so they're legalish anyhow.Nimue "Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life, take big bites. Moderation is for monks." (Robert Heinlein)

Re:Magic Balls - 2007/05/16 11:58A few questions.
What is the minimun length for streamers on a spell ball?
Are we still staying away from the cloth wrapped bundle of rubber bands? Loosely packed as opposed to a tightly wrapped ball of pain?
Been a long time since I played a magic class so I'm a little out of touch on construction and I just found out that I hit 6th Druid so I'm trying to get the gear together to play it correctly.

rubber bands loosely packed are cool for spellballs (anything thrown should only be filled with soft, non granular, non rigid material, loose rubber bands, foam, sweatshirt material, etc, is all good)
and under the glossary description of magic balls (yeah some stuff is kinda hard to find at first)
Magical ball (: <snip> Streamers on magic balls may be no longer than 12 inches. /<snip>
I don't see anything on a minimum length, just no going over 12 inches. hope that helpsDragoon Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy. Hús Vetra Skald IMU
