another gewd place to pick up graphite cores is your local thrift store... Goodwill/Salvation Army... That's where I picked up two of mine... and only for $3 a shaft...
as for the plank foam, a friend of mine (who made my first two shields) found 1" insulation foam sheets for $6.00 at our local hardware store... cut into the shape that you want and rubber cement/hot glue them together. The only drawback to the insulation sheets is that whenever it gets wet outside, it tends to snap easily... (both of the shields snapped in the swampy ditch field of Rakis last year)
