what exactly goes on in an A&S tournament? What are they for? is there one at every event?
A&S stands for Arts and Sciences... think of it like the amtgard state fair. anything that you've made that is even remotely amtgard/historical/fantasy related is probably elgible to be entered into some category.
generally speaking they are used to "qualify" for holding office, but not always, certain tourneys are really just to give artisans a chance to shine.
people will bring many or all of the items the've created that havn't been entered into any other tourney and they will be judged. items are broken down into various categories, everything from field garb to food to armor to poetry to singing... there's 20 some odd differnet categories. judges (usually between 5 and 7 of them) will then score each item. scores are tallied and items ranked within each category. points are assigned to category winners and an over all winner is announced.
as for whether they are held at every event... not usually. but it depends on where you play. some places try to combine thier camping events with a/s tourneys. but not always. they are generally held every 6 months for quals and then there's additional ones staggered throughout the year depending upon your location.
what's a gauntlet tourny?
gauntlet is a team battle game that (i believe) was created for rakis last year. its themed after the old gauntlet arcade game. each team has four players, one warrior, one valkyrie, one elf and one wizard. the two teams fight, people have a good time. the only thing it needs is "green elf shot the food"" to be said on the side lines every 15 minutes or so.
and, i can't find listed borders of the principalities. are there any? what are the rules of those?
the rules are in the iron mountains corpora, available for download in the fiels section of this website. Appendix C covers the details of the principalities. the applicable parts to your questions are:
1.B.d. Every province of a Principality must be within 500 miles of every other province in the Principality.. 1.B.e. No member of the Principality may be within 150 miles of the Denver City limits.
hope this answers everything!
