Trebuchet - 2005/03/22 21:43 My very first Rakis, I got to see a couple of these bad babies set up on the end of the ditch field opposite the IM Castle and its not like I wasn't in love with them already!!!!

Anyway, an engineering student at West Point developed the little program for us Treb nuts. It allows you to enter different variables in the size and shape of a treb and then test the results! Fire away!!!!!!!

Go download it at...

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/04/02 01:05 The treb is a thing of beauty, but it's torsion powered siege weapons that make me feel all fuzzy inside.

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/04/02 06:23 Speaking of...

I want to make a pair of Ballistas for our duchy that fire Nerf bolts. Does anyone have a good ideas, or is it time to google it?

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/04/02 22:57 Try www.trebucet.com and links from there. Some great pics and some plans for sale for those who don't reverse engineer.

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/04/03 12:19 Obie I can help you with that, I have some plans already worked up for such a project as that. Give me a call.

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/06/01 02:56 i dont think youll get a lot of distance from nerf; too much wnd resistence for the weight. ball up some socks or something similar. i used a wadded up t shirt for my last treb and it worked nice.

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/06/01 10:17 I've actually done some research, and I'm going to use modified golf club tubes for ballista bolts.

Probably won't hit jack or squat, but it'll be fun to outfire the bows

Re:Trebuchet - 2005/06/01 12:21 i'd be surprised if you can outfire the bows on the field. you'll be firing heavier projectiles, from a system that should probably still conform to the 35lb maximum draw weight. it is afterall chucking these bastards in the air at people's faces. it would be different if it was lobbing them skyward first, like a trebuchet or catapult, but a ballista is a direct fire weapon. it might as well be a bow mounted sideways on a turret. Re:Trebuchet - 2005/06/01 12:32 I'm probably going to make the base swivel, but make the angle fixed, and put it on wheels or a sled or something. This way, it does go skyward first. It'll have more limited functionality, but come on, how functional are siege weapons anyway?

This way I can rain death at 80 yards onto your castle platforms
