The Assassination of Lord Kilar - 2006/04/28 15:51
The day is bright, full of activity and vigor. In the streets, heralds call out, men peddle their wares, and travellers make their way among it all with a sort of distant familiarity.
This town of Minsbrook is perhaps the most militant and yet content town in all the Kingdom of Emmaria. The man who now rules the land is a man that hates war, and is the one who united the depressingly warlike tribes with the small towns they would raid, and those towns with the cities that produced the finery they envied in their more richly born brethren.
But not all is well in the land. There are, as there always seem to be, dissenters and greedy men and women, all scheming in their own ways to get whatever they can, even if it means destroying the peace that has finally found their land. In fact, some even hunger for the wars to start again, that they may loot and pillage and rape, and drink the blood of their enemies. The greedy find these bloodthirsty ones useful for their willingness to do the dirty work, and the bloodthirsty find the greedy and corrupt useful for keeping them from the eyes of those in power. It is a fearful relationship.
To the horror of any one that would know of it, there is one such man as fit both of these descriptions, at this time, in Minsbrook. Subtly, he has been sowing seeds of anger and doubt in the people of the town for months, and is now one of the most respected men in the entire region. For those who love the king, this man is the greatest threat to the throne, and may just be the first to challenge it. His name is Lord Kilar.
---
On the opposite end of town, where things are just as bright, just as vigorous, there stands a grouping of rather purposeful men, each dressed in clothes that give little indication of their profession. Together, these men are the King's loyal squad, with their jobs including everything from collecting information on the King's enemies to helping to improve the King's reputation to killing off the small rebellions of those still clinging to the old ways. Each is skilled in his art, and knows each of the other members of their group with enough familiarity to notice strange behavior, should they be magically mimicked, somehow. This was a prepared group. And they have just heard about this Lord Kilar, and the threat he may present to the King. Needless to say, they are not happy about the possibility.
(All right. If you want to play, the main characters are intended to be the King's loyal squad of warriors, so it might be suggested that you be one of them. The only requirement is that you are truly loyal to the king in your behavior, at this point. Well, and hopefully you can put a number of sentences together effectively. Have at it, if you will!)
Unless you have something prevalent to say, shut up. If you don't know what prevalent means, cut out your own tongue. |
