Okay, I'm a little more than wierded out. - 2006/04/18 20:54First and foremost, allo out there.
Second, I have issues here.
See, I've been [sorta] doing Amtgard all my life.
And hten I turned 14 and found, to my dismay.......
That all the people in my area at the time were a bunch of ditch battle only folks.
This depressed me.
Then I went back to my birthplace on a vacation to the Burning Lands, and decided to see the group there, figuring them to be a most active group.
They were nothing but ditch battlers.
I lost faith in Amtgard, I believed the Kingdoms had fallen into a state of twilight, the glory days gone. No kingdom wars, no siege battles, no quests, heck, no capture the flag. Far as I knew, the world of Amtgard reduced itself to garbed ditch battles.
Me and my brother tried to make a shire, to no avail. So, for about four years, I've just been fighting my brother, and within the last year, some of my friends.
Then I find this site.
And unlike the Burning Lands site, you're updated.
Does life exist in Amtgard? Do fights for glory reach a crescendo in a symphony of wars and quests and capture the flag? Are classes used to diversify the game? Does the World of Amtgard beat with a living heart, here, in the Iron Mountains?
According to your site, yes.
SO yeah, I've had beliefs dashed, and it's taking some time to get into this, but man, It is good to see that a world I've longed to be in apparently is still alive and kicking.

Re:Okay, I'm a little more than wierded out. - 2006/04/19 13:52Well then, welcome to the iron mountains... there are many a ditch monkey out there, but there are many of us who live for the qwests and the RP aspect; flurbs do exist! We still exist, no worries there.
Take a visit to the roleplay thread and get something going there if you want... it's been dead quiet in there for awhile

you say this as if its a horrible evil thing.
the iron mountains is a kingdom that has given rise to some of the most prominant fighters in all of amtgard. ditching is likely how they got there. so yes... we ditch a lot.
that said, most chapters will try to run a minimum of one battle game every week. the NH usually has a battlegame and a special game (a quest, a monster battle, bitch game, whatever).
but, anything beyond a standard battlegame takes time and effort. make sure before you start giving people grief about not putting that effort in that you are willing to do some of it yourself.
my suggestion... hit your local park. play for a few months. make sure you are there every week and from start to finish so you don't miss anything. then evaluate it. if you like what oyu see, groovy. if you don't, then step up and make some changes. offer to run a quest. reeve a battle game. get people excited about the things you find exciting. but don't expect to have perfection handed to you on a silver plate. your idea of the perfect amtgard differs from everyone else. be willing to compromise."But right now I'm a little concerned about my pants, since I don't know where they are." - Valathina Nailo

Re:Okay, I'm a little more than wierded out. - 2006/04/20 21:28Maybe I need to elaborate.
They did non-class ditch battles endlessly.
I've been into Amtgard(Technically) since the age of five. Since that age, I've done nothing BUT ditch battles. Originally because I didn't know of everything else, and afterwards because the turnouts depressed me by being non-class ditch battles endlessly.
Now, with a life like mine, I hope you can understand why I want more from the average group. None of the groups I ran into in Colorado Springs fufilled that. Apaprently they've changed, so I owe the lot of them a visit.
I'd be happy with a standard battlegame even. Even classless. At least then it'd feel different. Either that or a class ditch battle.
I'd be more than willing to take time to set up stuff like that. I'd have done it earlier if I had known the interest rate was up.
Sure, no problem. Provided Keign doesn't properly persuade me into making our own shire(remembers the last attempt with his brother). In anycase, I plan on checking all the parks in Colorado Springs and Denver and everywhere in between.
I'll see about hitting the Fort Collins Park soon as I can Riddick.
Anyways, thank you all.
