Re:PRP Midreign - 2006/04/19 20:55
The Midreign of Rosetta Pact is upon us, folks. I hope that many of you are making your final preparations to attend. This email should give the finalized details for this Midreign Event for this weekend, April 22nd, in Starmount (St. Paul, MN).
The midreign celebration will include the weaponmaster tournament, the dragonmaster competition, and the midreign feast. The cost for the event is $5 total for all participants above the age of 14.
Weaponmaster The weaponmaster tournament will consist of the corpora-mandated weapons combinations. They will be fought in the following order: single short sword, short sword and shield, florentine short swords, great weapon, open weapon, and two person teams. Points will be awarded for 1st (5), 2nd (3), and 3rd (1) place. Sign-ins will close as the events are seeded. Seeding will begin at the conclusion of the previous event. Sign-ins will open at 12pm and sign-ins for single short sword will close at 1pm. The tournament will be double elimination.
Dragonmaster We've assembled a judging panel from all across Rosetta Pact. Sign-ins for the cultural tournament will open at 12pm and close at 1pm. Entrants will be required to fill out an entry tag for each item. Copies of these tags (in Word format) have been uploaded to each of the individual park's yahoogroups in the File section for your convenience. There will also be copies of these tags available during sign-in at the park. There will be only limited access to electricity at the site so cooking entries that are served hot will be problematic. You will need to make your own arrangements for heating. The park does not allow alcohol of any kind on its grounds, so any alcoholic entries will need to be judged separately from the time at the park. Contact me directly if you have plans to enter an alcholic entry.
Dragonmaster Scoring: The raw score for an individual entry will be from 1.0 (lowest) to 5.0 (highest). The contributing score of each item that a person enters will be its raw score minus 3.0 (since 3.0 is considered average). The total score for each person will be the sum of the scores of each of the items entered by that person. Thus, entering 10 items that each score 3.1 is equivalent to entering 1 item that scores 4.0. If there is a tie in the total scoring then, of the two tied entrants, the entrant with the highest-scoring individual item will be declared the Dragonmaster.
Midreign Feast We will begin serving the feast by 7pm. The menu is shown below.
Appetizer- French Fried Vegetable Chips (Parsnip, Carrot, Potato, Yam), Cheese Tomato Dip. Entree- Skewered Grilled Amish Chicken Strips, Basmati Rice, Roasted Vegetables (zucchinni, squash, eggplant, onion, red and yellow peppers), Baby Spring Greens with a light balsamic vinaigrette, Rolls. Dessert- Brownies and Izzy's Ice Cream!
Following the feast there will be a fire in the fire pit outside the feast hall. Music and other merry-making are encouraged until the park closes (11pm).
Directions to the Event The venue for Midreign will be Newell Park in St. Paul, MN (not Apple Valley!). Newell Park is at the corner of Hewitt and Fairview. Take Interstate 94 (either east or west, depending on where you are coming from) and take the Snelling Avenue exit. Turn north onto Snelling (right if westbound, left if eastbound). There will be a number of stoplights on Snelling. After you pass the stoplight on Minnehaha Avenue, it is just another few blocks to Hewiit. Take a left onto Hewitt. The park will be on the righthand side, a few blocks down. Parking is on the street, although there is a parking lot on Fairview that will be near to the A&S sign-in areas.
Strategies for getting to I-94. From points south and west of St. Paul (Gehenna Plains, Olympus, Querna Tema). You will probably be taking I-35 northbouth to the Twin Cities. In the southern Twin Cities, I-35 splits into western and eastern legs of the interstate. Follow 35W northbound. 35W will eventually join I-94 near downtown Minneapolis. Take I-94 eastbound and follow the directions above.
From points east (North Haven). If you're coming from Chicago, its likely that you'll take I-94 westbound the whole way. There's probably little that I can do to help you.

I-94 is just off of this map to the south.
If you have questions about how to get to the park, please let me know.
