Re:Star Fest Demo - 2006/04/11 06:57 I know allot of folks have stuff they do on fridays, saturdays, sundays,

With these demo's (StarFest & Opus Con) we have a great opportunity
to get the Amtgard name out there, get exposure to folks that already have
a little interest in dice, the R word (roleplaying), and even some folks who
already swing sticks occasionally.
There's Klingons out there that need more than the once a year
battlith (sp?) tourney, chain maillers that need a good place to wear their
armor, Twi'lek slaves that crave freedom, basically a whole group of folks
that need Amtgard, but just don't know it yet

just look at this,
a whole family waiting to swing sticks, they just don't know what to use
outside of a plastic light saber.
There is an inherit need to hit people with sticks!

This dude is just waiting to get force choked
by Vader, why not save a life and bring him into the Iron Mountains?
Free him from the influence of dangerous Sith for a little while, I'm sure his
family will appreciate having a father for a while longer.

but seriously,
this is our opportunity to have 40 to a side ditch battles & battle games,
I know I've heard folks say "dang, you had that big of a ditch at 'that event' I
wish I was there for that"
Well I see a trend in Amtgard today, the parks are dieing out to small core
groups, events are where the big numbers are it, local numbers are
changing, & everyone wants for the old days...

the Old Days are gone!
The past is past, the Future is Now!

We can have those 'event' ditches each week at the park,
all it takes is getting you and a friend to show up, and if everyone brings
a friend.. you see the possibility? Even if we only gain 2 new members in
each group, that's a huge success. Someone brought you into the game right?

With these cons we can make allot of new friends and expose people to
something maybe they've been missing since childhood, why else would
folks dress up if not for the fun and joy it brings them?
Maybe these folks are really involved in the cons and who they are at
the con, we're all pretty involved with Amtgard, yes?

Well there's only so many cons every year, how many weekends go by where these guys & gals are left wanting? How many weekends out of the
year can you spare to put into the future of the Iron Mountains? 1? 2?

How many weekends go by where the Klingons aren't training and losing
their edge? I personally won one of the battlith tourney's at last Opus Con
never having picked one up before, and that came from Amtgard training.
I'm sure there are doubts you might have, and there are plenty of excuses
available to pick from,
allow me to give you some reality, the Opus Con and the Mall Demo's I've
worked weren't really that hard, I'll tell you why. Having a friend with you
makes it so so easy. You run the booth, you talk to people (it's not hard,
try it sometime) you tell them about Amtgard, you keep it real simple and
you let them hit you with a sword. It isn't stressfull with a friend there to
help you, you can take turns going to the bathroom, take turns talking to
people, when one of you falters the other can pick it up.
Don't see people as strangers at the Con that are there to bother you,
see them as friends you haven't made yet. It can be awkward to talk to
people you've never met, but the passion you have for Amtgard is all that
you really need.
A Con is unsuccessfull when there's only 1 person working it, then it turns
into work, and Amtgard should never be work, only passion and energy.

Before you give your excuse and go check the other threads, I have one
last thing,
Whatever your doubts, judgements, or questions are, how will you know
what it's like till you try it?
Wasn't Amtgard something new you tried? You didn't come into Amtgard
knowing everyone and what it was all about did you? Sure you may have
had doubts and concerns (or judgements) but you still tried it right?
Try coming to one of these Conventions, go to the demo with a friend,
do a shift, then make your decision.

Thank You

Re:Star Fest Demo - 2006/04/19 09:31 Rabbitt, I am trying to work a double shift on thursday/Friday. This would allow me to be up there alot earlier than I would otherwise. If it doesnt go through, expect me around 12:30 on Saturday. If it does work out I will get there as early as I am able to get my old butt up and movinig. Hops.....Grains.....By God, my beer is a salad!

You are fabulous Artimus. We will see you when you get there. You don't need to be there any earlier than 9/10AM, but if Noonish is when you get there that is fine too.

Re:Star Fest Demo - 2006/04/19 11:12 Okay...as of right now we are only doing the Demo Saturday as there has been no interest for anyone to help out on Sunday. The panel for out club is at 1pm in Panel room 3. Kayden and I will watch the table at that time.

thanks to everyone who has offered to donate time or items to this demo, hopefully with only doing one day we will still get our name out there for the great club.

Ok, I just received an e-mail from Starland asking people to carpool to Starfest if at all possible. This is unheard of!! They are stating that pre-sales for tickets to this Starfest are higher than they have ever been. This means that attendance at this convention is set to break records.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!

I am asking for help... NO... I am demanding help...

Thanks to Michael HOG and Moogie for donating items and Artimus and Grendel for volunteering for Saturday, but where is the rest of Empire????!!! Is there any way that anybody could possibly donate a couple hours on Sunday to help out??

We CANNOT afford to miss an opportunity like this with this much exposure!!!! I am talking upwards of around TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE from every walk of life. We have two passes for the demo and I will even suck it up and buy a pass if a third is willing to help out but right now we need at least one person.

My Cell # is 720 987-3754 for anyone who is willing to help (I will be away from e-mail after tonight so e-mail me today or call me this weekend if you can help)

Re:Star Fest Demo - 2006/04/21 15:02 Can someone please re-post the directions to where the demo will be? It seems that my ability to store information rapidly diminishes the longer I am awake - Must be the oldsheimers thing kicking in once again! Hops.....Grains.....By God, my beer is a salad!

Re:Star Fest Demo - 2006/04/25 10:36 So this demo was a very smooth running successful one.

Thanks to Moogie, Micheal HOG, Grendel, and Cullum for lending us the
cool stuff to bring people to the table. This helped in more ways
that you will ever know. We will be bringing the items out to the
park the weekend of May 5th, as this weekend is our Son's birthday
party on Saturday and family commitments on Sunday. If you need the
items before that or would rather we bring them to your house, please
let us know and we can make arrangements.

Thanks to Artimus, Grendel, Cullum, Cutari, and Talison for
volunteering to sit in the Oven and bake at the table while keeping a
smile on your faces while recruiting members. Next year if we are in
teh same location we will need to bring a portable AC unit or at
least a fan. I know we heard a lot of interest in the club while
we worked the table and everyone I heard talk to you sounded really
interested as well.

You all Rocked this weekend....the job now falls to the rest of the
IM to do what you do best and make any of these new members feel
welcome when they show up to the park. .

Thanks again!!!
Rabbitt and Kayden.
