Re:New People - 2008/07/23 22:13 we dont have to be in school anymore. we can still present ourselves professionally, and be able to do demos. its all about charisma Kung Fu is about the cultivation of the spirit.

Re:New People - 2008/07/27 17:19 I know but i don't know anyone else around here that's still in school. Its time for action. No more theory. Lets talk to whoever we need to at Leo's school and DO THIS! A warrior does not give up on what he loves. He finds the love in what he does.

Re:New People - 2008/07/28 03:44 what? Leo is 14.

teens and younger teens are ideal for amtgard. Leo is entering high school.

how the hell would we be attracting 12 year olds?

Re:New People - 2008/07/30 16:52 This Sunday is an imperial game day in the NH. Munchkin Ball is the main feature. It should be new, amusing and have extra people there as I know at least a few IMD folks are heading your way.

Re:New People - 2008/08/02 03:53 Recruiting

Since 99 the recruiting that I know have has taken different forms.

Individual- Bring a friend.
Poster/fliers- On Campus (CSU) and game stores
Demos- At Loveland High, lions club, Larimer county Ren faire, and the Con in Denver
Parade- CSU
Location- We used to do our tourneys at CSU by the student center, good exposure.
Drop-ins at the park- self-explanatory

Details details:

Loveland High was through an English teacher that that tied it somehow to the Shakespeare literature. Rabbit had that info.

CSU, anything in that area would have to be investigated by a student or alumni to find out the how’s and where’s what is allowed.

Scouts(Individual) – these were done at the troop level at one time. It was attempted to go council wide and the lead I had stopped with the head guy Terri Everett 970-493-6764. He is the one that needs to approve whether or not it’s Scout approved and it we could do a leaders meeting (roundtable) demo. Attempted several times and never had his calls returned.

If there were any other methods, I don’t know of them. As Grendel or Dan-the-Man. They were members before me.

There had been lots of talk, but people seem to lack follow through.

BUT!
Before you bother to recruit anyone, it might be worth finding out what keeps people at the park once you get them there. That also is a major issue. (part of my apathy rant)

Re:New People - 2008/08/02 18:35 What keeps people at the park is what the majority of us seem to hate.

Roleplaying. Quiet will back me on this im sure. But coming out every sunday and swingin foam with friends is great, and I love it. And I can come out just for that, a lot of people find it monotonous and boring. Especially when you come out, get stroked for 5 hours, work with some people, and dont see any improvement.

Another big thing that keeps people out is awards. Not saying we should be churning out awards, but simple first warriors or things of the sort will help people know we appreciate and know they are there.

We need standard battle games, if nothing else. Because it allows people to do something different each week. Triangle battles, zombie games, ork ball, jugging, what the hell ever.

We need someone to design and keep battle games moving. Even if its militia, it will keep people more interested than 5 hours of solid ditching.

I hate to admit it, but we (stick jocks) are killing the park.

Re:New People - 2008/08/02 21:28 Rafeki I totally agree. While ditching is fun, its not the soul of amtgard and what its all about. There needs to be more role playing, more connecting with the new players, and less "clicks" so to speak so that everyone feels welcome.
