X-post From Rivermoor Crown - 2008/10/13 13:59
Hi! - Populace
I know I'm wordy - and I "beg a boon" of all of you to bear with me.
We're gonna have a lot of fun over the next 6 months. I for one, am really looking forward to the games and story that we'll see unfold. I'm expecting to see excellent fighting, A&S and events coming up. Right now I want to talk to you as the Monarch who's doing the boring stuff behind the scenes rather than just the fun goofy role-playing.
First I have to give high praises to Savaen, Teleri and crew. The BOD, Corpora Committee and all the officers have done a great deal to make this process as organized as possible and I'm so thankful!
As the new Prince, I thought I'd like to mention how one of the goals for my reign is to move us closer to being a Kingdom based here in the Midwest. I wanna talk about how you can help that happen.
Some folks might say, why do I want to be part of a Kingdom? What's wrong with being part of a Principality? To that I answer, "well, nothing."
What's good about being a kingdom? Lots of stuff, and I wanna focus on what we'll be doing to get there, and how much it will add to our fun. First and foremost, is Recruitment and Retention. If every Amtgarder in Rivermoor recruited one friend who's never played before to become a regular member, our numbers would be perfect for a Kingdom. And wow, think if we all recruited two friends!
More players means more opportunities for fun, friends and action. It also means more people to take up reeving, arts and sciences, running a park, hosting events. The best tool for recruitment or retention is fun. I'm a fun junkie myself, so I'm here to say, if it's not fun, let's avoid it!
Second, we need to increase our interaction with the outside Amtgard world at large. As much as I enjoy going to Rakis and supporting my Kingdom's big event, getting a huge group of Rivermoorians to Clans, Spring War, Banner Wars or some other really big deal event would be a great way for the rest of Amtgard to see us in our shining glory.
Third, get involved! Run for office, run events, participate in A&S meetings, host an A&S night, get out on the field, vote in elections and althings, start a fighting company, win Dragonmaster, win Weaponmaster, play hard and maximize your fun.
There are smaller things we can do, like when we do travel, show up in good garb, fight with energy and fight clean, make friends with folks and pitch in where help is needed. When we're at home, do the same.
We have three great parks. Each of them has a distinct style and flair that makes them unique and special. We're also each a part of something else that's special. We're creating a nation, much like our Pioneer ancestors created our real country.
How can you help? Get out to an event in your sister parks. Attend an event that's part of the Pricipality storyline. Traveling to one another's parks, playing with each other as one big happy family will create that sense of Nationality that will make us all feel proud.
I know money is tight right now, the economy isn't too great and everyone feels the pinch. That doesn't mean we can't still have a lot of fun with Amtgard. When you're going to an event, pack the car full of passengers, share gas costs and fun. One of the things the Regent's got planned is how-to do A&S on a budget (or for free!)
Fund Raising, is important and I encourage each of you to think of ways to do earn dough for the Principality. I'm putting forth an Althing proposal to organize a "Rivermoor Cocktail Party" at the next Gathering of the Clans. I'll have more details on this wacky plan in the future, but my goal here is for our next monarch to be able to take our intent to bid for Kingdom status in high style.
Most important is that you're having fun with your Amtgard experience. I know I'm a preachy ole' grannma, but (and I know I've got a big butt!) if you're not having a good time at the field, with your fellow Amtgarders, figure out why and change it so you are. If you are having a good time, share it! Don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff! Or if you must do one of these things, pet the sweaty stuff!
If you made it to the bottom of this - I thank you. Count how many times I said fun here and come tell me and I'll give you a prize! Lay on!
