Re:Beginner Maille - 2008/09/02 05:00 Personally I didn't like the results I got from using any type of snips/cutters. It could be my own inadequacies but the gaps were too large for my taste and the rings always looked a little deformed. Instead, I use a Koil Kutter to cut my coils. It's very similar to the JumpRinger system but does not require an expensive motor unit. It comes with 0.08" jewelry blades that barely leave any gap. I also bought the Proxxon motor tool from the same place and that works well for soft metals. It won't work for harder metals because the torque is too low and the RPM too high. You'll just burn up blades. For harder metals I adapted the cutting assembly from the Koil Kutter to my cordless drill. I use the same blades and everything, but the drill has a higher torque and I can run it at low RPM. I've been able to cut titanium and stainless steel coils with no problem.
