SCA Arrow Blunt - 2006/07/28 16:37 Hey all, I can't post this to e-sam from work in order to get Oz or Avalon's views on these blunts I found through the local SCA Baronial Archer Captain.

http://www.flatbow.com/UHMW/

He says they are the SCA standard now. I like the idea for a base but would have to build up Amt-legal heads around it.

Rewth what do you think?

I'm going to meet with the local guy next week and looke at some samples, I'm not sure how heavy they are so I may buy a few and test them out.

Re:SCA Arrow Blunt - 2006/07/28 19:00 VERY interesting. at first i was like "hell no! omg!" but then i saw that hte dimentions were notably smaller than the pictures.

at 1.25 inches in diameter they'd effectivley replace the whole concept of building up the tip with ducttape and a penny. the weight should be notably less though.

providing the padding is appropriate and its a full round stressball o nthe tip, i dont' see why these wouldn't work. though, i think they need to be EXTENSIVELY tested. i suggest using oznog's arrow testing board.

basicaly get some pink wall insulation board. put that on a pieceo f plywood and shoot the arrows at it repeatedly (dead on and at an angle). check the pink foam for notable deformations and also listen to the sound. it should give you a very good indication of hte safety of hte arrow.

Re:SCA Arrow Blunt - 2006/07/28 19:40 The very first thing that came to my mind was that people will immediately tell you that they can feel the core.

I get that when people inspect the Foam-tech arrows. They will squeeze the sides and complain that they can feel core. It really irritates me.

I can see if being made to work, but I have to agree with Rewth, it would need major extensive testing.
