Knighthood? - 2006/03/17 07:13 I've res the rulebook a couple of times and the thing that is bothering me is that in the Paladin description it says that you have to be a knight for 12 weeks. So my question is how do I become a Knight?

Re:Knighthood? - 2006/03/17 07:47 The suggested requirements for becoming a Knight in the Iron Mountains are found in the Iron Mountains Corpora. You can find the current version of the Corpora in the Files section of this website.

Re:Knighthood? - 2006/03/17 08:01 yer prolly gonna get a lot of answers on this, but the general answer is "a lot of hard work and a lot of time."

you cna find the detials in the Iron Mountains Corpora, which is available for download i nthe files section. but here's an overview.

basically there are 4 types of knighthoods, each one requires that you be considered a master in some aspect of the game:

Knight of the Sword - combat
Knight of the Crown - leadership
Knight of the Flame - service
Knight of the Serpent - arts n sciences

this is most commonly noted by various awards and stuff you will probably be given throughout your life as an amtgarder. (you will typically see awards given to people at midreigns and coronations, basiclaly feast events)

as you acrue higher levels of awards you will draw the attention of the knights circle. when they deem it neccesary they will discuss you and your accomplishments. they will also discuss your personality and "knightly virtues". they then vote and give a suggestion to the Emperor. if the emperor wishes to, and they approve then you'll prolly be knighted. (also, sometimes the mperor comes to the knights circle about an individual, not the other way around. but its generally a joint decision between the circle and the emperor)

knightings happen 2-4 times a year, usually at larger coronations/midreigns where there's bunches of people in attendance. once you see one, a lot of this begins to make a little more sense.

and note that it takes a LONG time to get knighted, if you are ever going to at all. the fastest knighting in the IM was (to my knowledge) was sir kane, and that took him 2.5 years. i would guess the average is between 6 and 8 years. and that assumes you are ever going to be knighted. there are people who have been playing for more than a decade that don't have a white belt on.

oh... guess i should explain that... one of hte symbols of knighthood is a white belt (trimmed with a color denoting the order of knighthood). its something we reserve only for them. out of respect you should not wear a belt thta contains more than 25% white in it (if any white at all). spurs, unadorned chains and a white or black phoenix are also reserved symbols of knighthood.

on a semi related note, some other colors of belts are generally reserved as well. however, they are not nearly as strongly enforced.
red belts are reserved for squires (which are taken by knights)
black belts with silver trim are reserved for man at arms (taken by squires)
yellow belts are for pages (taken by those with titles of nobility)

but that is a WHOLE other ball of wax. if you want more detials on that, jsut ask.

Re:Knighthood? - 2006/03/17 08:04 oh yeah....

http://www.amtgardrecords.com/knights/kingdom.php?kingdomID=1

that is the iron mountains knights page within the ORK. it will give you a little better idea of who the current knights of the iron mountains are, and many of them have little bits of bios and other such stuff to give you an idea of why they have been knighted.

Re:Knighthood? - 2006/06/25 13:03 Since you've mentioned the unadorned chains thing, Rewth, which hadn't come to mind in my current project, I had a question about them. I'm currently in the process of putting together a chainmail hauberk. Say I decided to decorate it with a single gold chain on each shoulder. Would that be considered "unadorned chains" and be a violation? I want my piece to look sweet, but of course respect for knighthood comes first.

Re:Knighthood? - 2006/06/25 14:02 By "unadorned chain" he means a chain around the neck. Armour and garb items made from chain are safe from this rule. Hops.....Grains.....By God, my beer is a salad!

So, how's that chain coming?
